To Ask if you are still in touch with your old school or college teachers

I was recently talking about this with a friend, she mentioned that she was still in touch with an old school teacher. I'm just wondering how common this is. I didn't think to ask if I could keep in touch with teachers.

I was for a while. I went on to do their subject at uni (subject within a subject, not the A-level subject they taught).

No. Wish I was though.

Having said that, I have taught thousands of children over the last 25 years and I remember only a handful very well.

MoonsAndJunes · 01/07/2018 10:03

...and I'm still in touch withthem !

I'm in touch with one teacher, they never actually taught me but led the extra curricular activity I was quite heavily involved with.

No. But I’m a teacher and am still in touch with a few of my ex-students, some of whom are in their mid-30s now. It’s almost exclusively those who took the subject I teach further.

I'm FB friends with one of my old teachers and we chat very regularly.

Seems to be quite common then.

I’m Facebook friends with my old high school head of year and my old form/core subject tutor.
We chat on occasion.

My friend is actually dating their old college tutor

I keep in touch with one in particular because it was a subject I carried on with and so i suppose you end up building up a bit of a friendship! I know a handful of people who have one teacher in particular they stayed in touch with, or maybe a couple from the same department, but i would say most people aren't. Majority of my teachers i was glad to see the back of!

Mine would be nonagenarians or dead but DD still sees 2 of her secondary teachers from time to time. She's HOD in the subject that they taught.

I've recently got back in touch with one after I was doing some transcription work for a journalist interviewing celebs about teachers who really had an impact on them. He was delighted to hear from me and we've been emailing regularly, which is nice. Gratified he remembers me 24 years on, but I went to a very small school and he taught quite a niche subject (4 in my class at A-level), so he hasn't quite taught the numbers that some here have.
