To cycle ON the pavement?

Haven't ridden in years and just getting back on it. Do not trust some of the cars on the road to overtake me with enough space. I'm still wobbly on it.

AIBU to ride on the pavement? Even when there is a cycle lane on the road (which was a locked at two points today by parked cars!).

I also use the 'green man' to cross the roads rather than moving to the road and crossing like a vehicle.

Shatnerwig
This is bout stolen cars but 5000 hit and runs by motorists that just drive away, what you would consider normal people

As for jay walking - ffs NO

It was brought about by car manufactors to make car priority and I would hate to see that in Uk

It’s far better in most European countries where drivers are held responsible for there actions on the road

I thought about this thread & decided that since we have wide pavements locally, & a lot of the cyclists do go reasonably slowly & stay out of the way of pedestrians, I could live with that.

Walking back from town just now though, I was crossing on green & an idiot cyclist flew into me out of nowhere & bashed into me.

To be fair he stopped before actually managing to run me over & he was horrified & apologetic. My first words were "Are you stupid???" which I think was pretty mild in the circumstances (he didn't have an answer) & once I'd reassured him I was ok, just probably bruised, I did check if he was ok too.

I did also ask what he thought would have happened if I was a toddler or elderly & I think he got the point. As I left he was walking his bike along the pavement looking very embarrassed.

I'm a runner. I sometimes do a route where a woman is always cycling towards me on the pavement, guess who has to run into the road?! I feel like knocking her off.
I have nothing against it if you go onto the road if a pedestrian comes. As you say the roads can be dangerous.

It doesn’t bother me if the cyclist is aware that they must give way to all pedestrians.. as long as they are no speeding along disregarding other pavement users I don’t see the issue. If there are pedestrians, the cyclist needs to stop and wait if there is not sufficient room for both.

I’m not sure why as a society we are so intolerant of other members of it, on another thread we are all meant to live side by side happily with whores, but no way can we share a bit of tarmac momentarily with a cyclist??

Is the pavement rule really set at 11 years old? My son is 12 and cycles to school... he’s done bikeability up to level three, but I’d not be happy with him on roads in rush hour ☹️

Whores????

Yeah, there was a prostitute thread where people were up in arms that it might not be readily accepted by the majority of close neighbours.
