To work part time?

I’m looking for a new job. I am single, no mortgage, no kids. Young ish, without much savings so need to be thinking of that, as well as pension.
My profession pays roughly 30-40K per annum. So I would still have a very livable wage on 4 days a week.

I think I would be happier, less stressed, and do a better job if I only work 4 days a week. My mum thinks it is foolish and a bit lazy. My friend thinks if I am that tired/stressed, I should see a doctor. I just think my life would be better because at the moment I don’t have the energy to enjoy the weekends and lie in bed half the day.

What do you think?

I've always been happier p/t than f/t.

DF worked hard and never benefited from his pension, he died while still working and was replaced by 3 people. My priorities have always been skewed towards earn enough (short term and long term), enjoy work, enjoy life. Work smart, not hard for the sake of hard. Currently a SAHM, but was previously doing a job that could easily expand to fill every waking moment with few extra gains.

i just cant understand the mentality of having no life while you are young and healthy, just to make sure you have a pension when you’re too old to enjoy life fully (and ill from working full time and not looking after yourself) Sad

its not great watching people burn out and let their physical and menta health go to shit. ofc not everyone does this, however many people i went to school with have and im always so shocked when bump into them. we are in our 20s and they look late 30s from all the stress.

if you can afford to work part time, 100% do it
