Pissed off with colleagues comment about my food?

Friday and colleagues decide to go buy breakfast from the canteen, ask if I want to go, I say no thanks I’m just going to have my shake.

Colleague replies “mmm nutritious”

Yes much more nutritious than the giant breakfast cob you’re going to stuff in your mouth.

I like a protein shake after the gym, I still eat 3 good meals each day.

Macros, for those hard of Googling, refer to Macro nutrients - fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Micro nutrients are your vitamins and minerals.

People who are really into their fitness or on certain weight loss diets track their macros to aid their physical recovery from exercise or weight loss.

4littlebirds · 29/06/2018 22:36

I’m genuinely not sure how you have managed to make it so far, if that comment has upset you enough to start a thread about it.
You must find life very difficult.

QueenDoris · 29/06/2018 22:36

"Hey, fancy coming to the canteen"

"No, sorry, got to hit my macros"

"Ahh, Luxe is working on her spreadsheet"

LuxeLisbon · 29/06/2018 22:36

Macros are personal to your body or what you want to achieve. It’s down to your protein, carbs and fat intake.

Pebblespony · 29/06/2018 22:37

In my office comments like this are commonplace. If someone comes in with a terrible lunch, someone will say 'mmm looks delicious' and everyone, including the person who brought the lunch, will have a good laugh.

QueenDoris · 29/06/2018 22:41

So basically you are the protein shake wanker of the office who thinks yourself superior to others because you don't eat proper food. Well done you.

Personal to my body is proper food. Macros my arse

LuxeLisbon · 29/06/2018 22:41

Well what about this aibu.

Size 6 colleague very into fitness said to me- would you like to get some granola and berries?

I said no thanks I’ve already got my bacon butty.

She then walked off saying “mmm nutritious”

I’m overweight and felt judged. Aibu?

(Btw before I get attacked I’m not a size 6 fitness goddess, more a size 10 with a chubby stomach)

Stinkbomb · 29/06/2018 22:43

Well yes, really.

Fgs, make your diet choices, not everyone else has to agree, it's not necessarily a dig.

Grow up.

crispysausagerolls · 29/06/2018 22:44

Maybe she just felt a little guilty about what she was going to eat and it made her feel better to put down your healthier option? Not saying that’s acceptable, just saying that’s what it sounds loke

VladmirsPoutine · 29/06/2018 22:45

You sound so full of rage that perhaps a nice satisfying "giant breakfast cob" might have taken the edge off a bit...

VioletCharlotte · 29/06/2018 22:46

Just rtft and agree with others who have said you and your shakes may be a teensy but annoying! I used to work with a girl who was clean eating , or whatever, and would constantly say things like 'Just off to have my chia seed and manuka honey shake' HmmHave what you like, just don't talk about it!

argumentativefeminist · 29/06/2018 22:49

The thing is OP, you didn't actually start out by saying you felt hurt and judged by this as in your hypothetical reverse AIBU. If you had, maybe we would have been more sympathetic to the fact that this is actually about soothing your feelings rather than the relative merits of shakes and breakfast rolls. Which is fine, but that should have been the point of the thread from the start. Instead of slagging off the other lady for things unrelated to her being rude - e.g. her being overweight and liking breakfast rolls.

LuxeLisbon · 29/06/2018 22:50

'Just off to have my chia seed and manuka honey shake' hmmHave what you like, just don't talk about it!

So you think potentially I might be being annoying when I ring my bell and ask for silence whilst I announce what meal I’m eating? Blush

lifechangesforever · 29/06/2018 22:50

Do people really not know what macronutrients are?

Pebblespony · 29/06/2018 22:52

They just don't care what macronutrients are.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 29/06/2018 22:53

I’m more worried that your maths has gone out of the window... 40 hours per week five days per week (maybe you need some carbs)

Fruitcorner123 · 29/06/2018 22:55

Have what you like, just don't talk about it!

^^ this exactly

Do people really not know what macronutrients are?

Clearly not. Many of us are not overweight or unhealthy despite not knowing what they are. It's absolutely fine to follow whatever diet or health plan you want. Its annoying as a friend/colleague to hear about it all the time. Lot's of us just genuinely don't care.

StopPOP · 29/06/2018 22:55

I had no idea what macronutrients were. I do now and don't see myself ever using it. Nice to learn a new word though in any case Smile

LuxeLisbon · 29/06/2018 22:56

Instead of slagging off the other lady for things unrelated to her being rude - e.g. her being overweight and liking breakfast rolls

I said her weight was irrelevant. But when she’s made it very clear that her weight upsets her and she wants to lose weight then (even without those reasons) I’d never comment on her food choices.

Also I don’t care what anyone has for breakfast. It’s just a stupid comment saying my food isn’t nutritious when the food you’re about to eat isn’t nutritious.

It’s like someone judging someone for vaping when they are about to have a cigarette,

OP posts:
SandyY2K · 29/06/2018 22:56

You're too sensitive. Eat/drink what you like abd ignore. It's your body.

LuxeLisbon · 29/06/2018 22:58

Also I don’t talk about macros ever with colleagues ... or anyone

OP posts:
FunnysInLaJardin · 29/06/2018 22:59

Lol OP. I got offered a cake today. I said oh thanks, and then didn't take one. No one knew this. Just don't comment on your own or others food. Its easy

argumentativefeminist · 29/06/2018 23:00

Think you're both as bad as each other tbh OP. I understand why you're pissed off, I probably would be for a few minutes too, and longer if it was an ongoing thing. Shed have a right to be pissed off if you commented on her food choices. But your tone here came across as more judgemental than simply angry, which is understandable, a lot of people get like that when they're angry. I just don't think it helped to encourage sympathy towards you.

nocoolnamesleft · 29/06/2018 23:01

So, you basically said "No thanks, because I'm going to be all healthy and virtuous" - no, can't see at all why that would be fucking annoying.
