Am I being petty about my neighbours?

We live in flats with a communal area. Currently the other two flats are empty so there are only two of us in.

Our neighbour constantly has all his windows open and wide. Obviously the weather is hot but he has currently been away from the flat for three days and the windows are all wide open.

If the windows are open then anyone can climb in from the garden, damage the property, steal from the property, set a fire, anything. Not only that but once they are in his flat, because there is only us in the building no one would hear them get into mine if we aren't in or if they cause damage to the communal area.

Before his flat was converted to a flat it used to be a shop. They got done over badly and no one heard anything as we were away. They caused a lot of damage.
It's pissing me off but I can't decide if I am BU?

Your not being unreasonable at all.
Are you sure he is not home ?
Maybe somebody is staying there ?

onceisawabee · 28/06/2018 02:05

Is his flat on the ground floor? If so you could push the windows close from the outside

avamiah · 28/06/2018 02:08

It seems very strange that he would leave his windows wide open and go away.
Saying that what floor is he on ?

Fightthebear · 28/06/2018 02:11

I don’t think you can reasonably dictate what your neighbour does with the windows in his own flat, sorry.

Birdsgottafly · 28/06/2018 02:18

Is his flat rented, is there someone you could report this to?

If it's putting you at risk, then it is your business.

Someone could rob the place, including gas fitting and put everyone in danger.

avamiah · 28/06/2018 02:21

Fightthebear,
I agree with you but it does seem strange that somebody would leave their windows wide open and be away for 3 days.?
If that was my close neighbour I would be concerned?
Maybe something has happened to him?
Who knows

avamiah · 28/06/2018 02:28

OP,
Are you still on this thread ?

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 28/06/2018 02:29

Could this impact your insurance?

avamiah · 28/06/2018 02:41

CircleSquare,
That’s a good point.
I personally would knock and check if anybody is in, then if not I would report it on 101 to the police and say the Windows are wide open and the guy hasn’t been seen for 3 days .
They will come out and check it out

Takethemdown · 28/06/2018 08:40

Avamiah yes I went to bed sorry.

They are definitely not home. They have done this consistently since they have moved in.

I know when they are not home as we regularly have his mates come over and regularly spend ten minutes shouting their name hoping they will hear through the open windows and banging to get their attention.

Then they will turn back up days after.
