To ask your top tips for a 16 year old's party - this Saturday!!!

Hi... I've been so chilled about this... so much else going on from GCSEs to work commitments and sick mother ....

But I've suddenly realised I do have 70-80 teenagers turning up at our house to party on Saturday night...

DD has bought disco lights - a mate has done playlist - we're ordering range of beer and cider (and champagne for midnight when it actually turns into her birthday) with not much to munch on beyond crisps, popcorn and sweets and guacamole/hummous.... we're putting away anything breakable and covering the downstairs loo floor as we've been warned by DD and her mates that it "could get really manky".

She's lined up 4 mates to be the "bouncers" if there is any trouble ..and laughingly said all her male mates are small or tall and gentle but the two girls are pretty feisty!

We have guest list - and I'm allowed to be on the door for the first hour and then instructions to vanish so DH and I will be watching telly upstairs - and occasionally glancing out of window to see what actually is going on!

Oh and she's said we should put a "Private" sign half way up the stairs but be a bit relaxed so that only her closest mates go up to first floor. Luckily we have bizarre outside loo (70s decor!!) as well as inside one so should be enough.

They are basically nice kids... but they are 16 and demob happy after exams! And I know some of them are quite capable of getting slaughtered though DD is pretty moderate in her drinking and feeling very responsible.... but she isn't one of the feisty girls, much gentler.

So..... what are your top tips? What have I missed? What do you wish you had known before hosting teens at home?

bumblingbovine49 · 01/07/2018 07:58

I helped a friend police her daughter's party at a similar age a few years ago. I spent the whole time roaming the house policing vomiting, arguing teenagers. I am pretty certain some of them were having sex in the bathroom/toilets as I banged loudly on the door for them to come out.

There were tantrums, hysterical drunken arguments , storming in and out and doors banging. One child ran into the garden and climbed a 6ft wall and jumped off, luckily not hurt

I took several who lived fairly locally home address they were so drunk I couldn't let them get home alone.

A group of older boys turned up but my friend and I said they couldn't come in. They weren't happy but did leave, but we had hysterics from the 16year old girls who has invited them who stormed off into the night and I spent ages driving around looking for them as they were so drunk I was worried about them.

It was hell!! The only saving grace was that every one drank so much so early that they were all done by 10.30pm.

I only had a 6year old at the time so was not prepared at all.

bumblingbovine49 · 01/07/2018 08:00

How did it go.

Happy birthday to your daughter

Elasticity · 01/07/2018 08:04

I want to hear the stories...surely will have been some drama with that many kids in attendance.

Personally, as a 17 year old, I was driven home by my friends mum, in the passenger seat throwing up repeatedly into her washing up bowl. This was after we had raided her booze cupboard and had been drinking all sorts e.g. campari on top of the beers and alcopops we had

ladymelbourne1926 · 01/07/2018 08:07

I'm a little late but just adding I did this for my dds birthday a few years ago and it wasn't anywhere near as horrendous as I feared.
They just seemed to dance, bizarrely cook and talk, alcohol was provided but generally not drunk excess, apparently it's just not 'cool' Hmm my dd is a gentler type teen as were most of her friends. The only incident really was hysterical crying from one girl whose boyfriend broke up with her and the kitchen clean up wasn't fun.
How did it go?

Rachie1986 · 01/07/2018 08:18

OP come back and update us!! How did it go?

lapenguin · 01/07/2018 08:19

Anyone else think that the update is going to be that they all had a spiffy time? Who would come back and admit they were wrong and they shouldn't have given 78 underage kids alcohol?

Imustbemad00 · 01/07/2018 08:24

Silence says a lot...

Myotherusernameisbest · 01/07/2018 08:32

I think if it all went swimmingly op would've been back on here at 1am after they all hopped merrily into their ubers saying what a wonderful time they all had.

I doubt we'll get the true story though when she is eventually back. She's probably either at the hospital with at least one of the teens. ( I really hope not) Or at the police station.

CaptainBrickbeard · 01/07/2018 08:39

I’m so horrified reading this thread at all the people talking about parties with dozens of guests in normal houses in normal streets..? How can people be this selfish? It’s not just next door neighbours that will be disturbed. What about small children, people who work weekends, ill people, people who have the right to peaceful enjoyment of their own homes? The noise such a party must generate is massively anti social. If you want a big event like this, you should hire somewhere set up for it and regulated, not inflict a night of misery on an entire street.

MollyHuaCha · 01/07/2018 09:03

Maybe the guests are still there.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 01/07/2018 09:07

I just drove past a big house with two police cars parked outside the driveway... Immediately thought of this thread!

2anddone · 01/07/2018 09:12

Waiting to see how OP got on. I had a house party at 16 my parents went next door which was lucky really as it meant they were close by when someone ran through our patio door leaving a clear cut out of their body on the remaining glass ShockBlushConfused

kaytee87 · 01/07/2018 09:36

I'm late to this thread but I think it's incredibly stupid and selfish (to your neighbours) to invite 80 teenagers to your house for a party.
You really shouldn't have supplied other people's kids with alcohol.
4 children were the 'bouncers'? Well I'm sure that went well.
Champagne and a 'VIP' area for a teens party? very cringeworthy.

Confusssed · 01/07/2018 09:46

I am waiting with baited breath for the update too. I vaguely remember attending a 16th birthday party where the parents spent the next morning hosing vomit off their prize roses and the family dog.

mummmy2017 · 01/07/2018 09:50

Morning...

fc301 · 01/07/2018 09:54

gingercat02 · 01/07/2018 11:14

Churrolicious · 01/07/2018 11:22
