To want to ban pet owners who leave dogs in their car

Every bloody year some irresponsible cruel twat leaves their dog in their car to die a slow horrible death.

It's well publicised how hot a car gets and how quickly when we have high temperatures so there is absolutely no excuse for leaving a dog in a car when it's already 26 degrees plus outside.

I know not everyone is a dog lover but this really really fucking upsets me.

Why can't we ban these owners from ever having another pet and fine them massively.

Agree fe the fine but how would you police the ban?

onalongsabbatical · 27/06/2018 18:51

Police it by bringing back dog licences. Long overdue. YANBU.

Sirzy · 27/06/2018 18:51

Yanbu.

I saw an article about a dog being rescued from a car at Cheshire oaks (and outlet shopping place) why take your dog there in the first place?

It is cruel and irresponsible. Can we not lock them in a car for the same amount of time and see how they like it?

ForalltheSaints · 27/06/2018 18:53

I don't think it should just be no pets, it should be no driving licence for a period of time too. I agree about a dog registration scheme as well.

QueenOfIce · 27/06/2018 19:38

Yes to dog licenses. I cannot understand why some people are either heartless or thick when it comes to their animals.

YANBU. Anyone who does this can't not be aware of the dangers, it's just bloody common sense.

MidnightAura · 27/06/2018 19:42

I agree. There’s no excuse for this.

KittiesInsane · 27/06/2018 19:45

At the local vet's today, the fierce receptionist was greeting anyone who came in alone with, 'Where's your pet? No, get them out the car RIGHT NOW and then check in.'

HarrietKettleWasHere · 27/06/2018 19:46

I've seen so many dogs out and about today in the midday sun, blazing hot pavements, central London. One a St Bernard Shock one must have been a dog-walker as had five different breeds on leads.

I think the penalty for that one should be the owner/walker has to trek across London in 28 degree heat with bare feet and no water and a bloody fur coat on Angry

Lycanthropology · 27/06/2018 19:47

YANBU.
There have been several news stories of dogs being left in hot cars over the last couple of days. Everyone, EVERYONE, knows this is a very bad thing to do. Even people who don't have or don't like dogs know this.
But people who have chosen to be dog owners? Unforgiveable.
My dog has struggled with the heat in a well ventilated house and outside in the shade recently. I'd not put him in the car.

I agree about reintroducing dog licences that can then be revoked for this, or leaving poo - bagged or otherwise-- lying around.

JAMMFYesPlease · 27/06/2018 19:56

YANBU. Not that we'd do it but a friend warned us that where we've moved to people will just smash windows to free pets and babies. All the stores have warnings that they take no responsibility if a pet or child is rescued. We're not in the UK by the way.

We plan all our journeys with the dog in mind. The summer is always at least 25 outside so hotter in the car. There's no excuse not to plan ahead and think of the poor things!

QueenOfIce · 27/06/2018 20:18

Every owner who leaves a dog in the car should be named and shamed publicly.

There was an article online today about the legal course of action to take if you find a dog left in a hot car. I don’t give a fuck about the legalities - sue me. That dog is coming out of that car.

QueenOfIce · 27/06/2018 20:32

I agree Ms I won't be waiting either.

It's bloody ridiculous

Here are 12 reasons someone leave their dogs in the car:-

"It's ok the dog is white" Hmm

"Looks their ok. They are smiling" whilst panting like a maniac

" Parked the car in the shade. Not my fault the shade moved"

"The dog barks when it's left alone and the neighbours complain"

"We only went to buy a new kitchen"

"We feel bad leaving him alone all day"

"It's ok, I'm a vet! (Yes really!!)" HmmShock

"I'm having an open house. The dog will put people off"

"It's not like its on its own. My kid is with him"

The kid was 5 months old Hmm

"What?! I left the window open"

"We didn't think we would be this long"

"Church overran but it's ok I run a rescue centre"

There is NEVER a good excuse for leaving your dog in a car Angry
