To wonder if this is a fat girl problem

Star1234567890 · 25/06/2018 10:56

I've always been slightly bigger than most, not always overweight but even at my slimmest 12-14, as a pair shape I would still have a belly, wobbly thighs and fat upper arms whilst having twig legs and a decollege that made me look gaunt.

I'm current 15stone and have recently lost Stone by dieting. I did the Couch 2 5k programme in the hope that it would improve my fitnes but despite also losing the stone, walking the 7 minute walk to nursery has me hot and sweaty even in cooler weather. It was like this when I was thinner too but I presumed I was just unfit.

When I walk, I'm not out of breath, just hot and sweaty. I find it uncomfortable trying to suck my tummy in and walk so that I don't waddle and have my belly stuck out but that's difficult too. I go slow when I can but then see other women breeze around faster and flawlessly.

Losing weight and working on my fitness, will this change the discomfort or am I just made this way?! It's not just that I swear but I feel hot too. Today is a killer and I don't have any summery clothes that I feel comfortable in.

I'm a bigger girl. Today it was very hot and I had to carry a huge, very heavy rucksack plus a bag to work. It weighed a ton. By the time I got there the back of my dress was wet with sweat. Not the first time, as I do it every Monday and this always happens when it's hot. I didnt struggle though, and I wasn't out of breath or anything. I don't think it's out of the ordinary to sweat.

WatermelonGlitter · 25/06/2018 21:18

swimming! nuff said

You still sweat in the swimming pool you know, as unlikely as that sounds. Get dehydrated too.

breastfeedingdrivingmecrazy · 25/06/2018 21:37

A note on cardio...it has been found that when women increase the amount of cardio exercise they do, their bodies will subconsciously move less the rest of the time to ensure that we hold onto our body fat. For example, fidgeting less or even taking an escalator when we wouldn't normally have done.

After 30 our muscles degenerate, and so the best exercise you can do is muscle building stuff with weights (or body weight exercise). That way you build muscle and preserve your metabolic rate.

Just thought I'd stick that out there after reading a few threads with an 'I do cardio but I still can't lose weight' theme tonight.

WhiteWalkerWife · 25/06/2018 21:42

Pippylou that sounds like part of the 'cat' yoga pose.

WatermelonGlitter · 25/06/2018 21:44

I don't know. I lost 5 1/2 stone doing exclusively cardio. It worked for me.

GingerKitCat · 25/06/2018 22:46

I'm currently on meds for excess sweating having been referred to Dermatology. I do have PCOS and could do to lose some weight (14-16) but this happened when I was extremely fit and had low body fat %
It's definitely getting worse and I'm running out of options so weight loss needs to happen tbh.
I'm finding this thread so relatable as I don't know anyone irl who suffers like me Smile Rather than localised/treatable hand/foot/armpit sweating or night sweating, mine is scalp/face/back/legs (incl. knicker region Blush)
It's SO embarrassing and really affects my life. I'm very pale with fine hair and I get the beetroot thing and sweat literally running and dripping. It's hideous.

I want to get back to doing HIIT in the gym and weights but I'm ashamed about how I look. I really need to bite the bullet though!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 26/06/2018 04:14

Interesting, Gingerkitkat - would it be fair to assume your name reflects your hair colour as well? I also am very pale with fine gingery hair.
Clitterati - what about you?

Timefortea99 · 26/06/2018 05:14

In this hot weather perhaps you could work out at home? There are lots of walking at home/cardio workouts uploaded by Jessica Smith on You Tube. I use them when it is raining and can’t get out. You can mix and match them for a longer work out.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 26/06/2018 06:32

Well Done on the stone !

So it’s pretty hot ! And as a PP said you are insulated Smile

But just keep going . My moment of pride yesterday was seeing a woman push her bike up a hill . I did that when I started in January of this year I can now cycle up it . But it took 6 months

Just keep on trucking and exercising and you will get there

re holding tummy in all the time

I am seeing a womens health physio post partum and she told me not to do this as it's damaging to the pelvic floor. By holding in your abs you keep your pelvic floor slightly engaged at all times. The pelvic floor needs to be engaged or relaxed, not somewhere in between.

I used to hold my stomach in a lot post baby, Ive had to make a few wardrobe tweaks since I stopped holding in but its good motivation to maintain a good, healthy lifestyle.

I do not know if holding in causes other problems.

How odd. I was told by my physio that holding in and engaging the pelvic floor to a mild degree was a brilliant way to strengthen stomach muscles and pelvic floor on a day to day basis.

I did it religiously. I now have a flat stomach and my pelvic floor is back to normal as far as I can tell (I do work out these days, but for first year after birth - nothing)

TheClitterati · 26/06/2018 07:28

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 26/06/2018 07:50

Cliveybaby · 26/06/2018 10:45

@WatermelonGlitter but in the pool nobody can tell you're sweating, and you stay cool :)

MeMyShelfandIkea · 26/06/2018 10:57

@cliveybaby when you're prone to overheating you stay hot and sweaty and flushed for ages after exercising, which includes swimming. It's not much fun trying to dry off and get dressed in the changing rooms when your body won't stop sweating! bitter experience

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 26/06/2018 10:58

Sorry, Clivey, got to disagree with you there.
I live in Australia, and back in the summer it was so hot one day when I took the boys to their swimming lesson that I paid to go in the pool myself as well. Cooled down for the first 8 laps, but after that, I started to sweat and go red, and knew that the coolness of the pool would not outweigh the heat I was generating myself, so had to stop swimming at that point!
I did just stay in the pool for a bit, but not swimming.

WatermelonGlitter · 26/06/2018 11:58

I missed the point you were making Clivey, sorry. I thought you were saying people didn't sweat in the pool.

flamingofridays · 26/06/2018 12:01

I am a bit like this actually, but also when I am sat still I am freezing, even now sat in a non air conditioned office I have had to put a cardigan on, but this morning on the way to nursery I was sweltering. this is usual except on very very cold winter days and even then occasionally I overheat.

I am not overweight for context but not skinny either, im not fit but trying to get fitter but like you not out of breath either.

TheClitterati · 26/06/2018 13:29

I think in me it is related to the bath/shower - it takes me ages to regulate my body temp after bathing in the morning. I don';t ahve a particularly hot bath.

Recently I don't bath so much first thing (as I take the DC to school and then jog) and I don't have the same overheating morning issues.

I was fine with swimming and used to swim a lot pre DC.

I still sweat and go red when I exercise (exercise/yoga instructors used to have to get to know me before they would start to relax), but I am so used to that now. Its the morning fuckwittery that gets on my tits.

I've just turned 50 and I am yet to have a hot sweat

Sortofcool · 26/06/2018 13:45

Extra Weight won’t help but I’m size 12and in this weather I’m a sweating, dripping mess. I literally look like I’ve stepped out the shower which is embarrassing. I feel as if I’m dragging myself around and am utterly uncomfortable and miserable. I’m the same when I walk. Not out of breath but look like I’ve run a marathon. Would you try linen clothes? I’ve just got linen trousers, a loose linen shirt and it really helps not to have tight or stretchy clothes on. I’ve also bought a cool towel from Amazon. It’s like a scarf. You wet it, shake it and then wrap it round your neck or I guess you could drape it over your shoulders. When it warms up you just shake it again and weirdly it feels cold again. It was about £8. It might help you feel less baking when you’re walking especially in these temps.

Passthecake30 · 26/06/2018 13:48

I'm slim, I don't get red faced and sweaty just by walking about, but I do get cold quickly in the winter. Pros and cons?

Sortofcool · 26/06/2018 13:52

ginger I could have written a lot of your post. I’ve literally not seen anyone dripping like I do. It’s so miserable and embarrassing. What meds do you take please? I have dysautonomia which means I have trouble regulating my temperature. No one has ever offered me any medication for it though and it’s got a lot worse over the last 3 years or so. My problem areas are head, neck and down to boobs but below that I don’t suffer more than anyone else I think. So sorry you have such problems.

TheClitterati · 26/06/2018 13:56

I've just turned 50 and I am yet to have a hot sweat

To clarify, I am hoping, perhaps foolishly, that I might swerve menopausal hot sweats, as I have been so proficient in them my entire life.

GingerKitCat · 26/06/2018 14:00

I'm just off out but will come back and reply to pp this evening! Brown hair here not ginger (have an awesome ginger cat hence username Grin), sorry to throw the theory out!

sweetboykit · 26/06/2018 14:03

Medication, anxiety and autism can also cause sweating. Autistic people have poor temperature control. It's also being over weight. I'm a sweater and over weight!
