I feel like to do this I would have to really restrict myself food wise and keep to a strict gym regime. Any tips?

Pure dumb luck.

TheFirstMrsOsmond · 24/06/2018 22:32

my body actually needs more food to lose the weight

I don't understand this StarUtopia?

nuttyknitter · 24/06/2018 22:32

I put on weight really easily. On my 50th birthday I was 3 stone overweight and it was a real wake up call. I took up running, which I'd never done before, and joined weight watchers. 17 years later I still monitor my food intake with the WW app and walk wherever possible, though arthritis has put paid to my running. I'm a size 10 and have to work hard to keep it that way.

LadyFilthPacquet · 24/06/2018 22:32

47, size 6-8, and I don't eat much, and walk anywhere within a 3-mile radius. Which sometimes means walking 12 miles per day. Which is fine, as I like walking and don't much like eating. I normally don't bother with breakfast or lunch, but might fit in a scone at some point.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 24/06/2018 22:33

Lucky genes in my case, I think. I freely admit I eat a crap diet with lots of junk food. I've always been an 8/10. I'm nearly 50.

LadyFilthPacquet · 24/06/2018 22:34

@snarted Thinking further. I have never wanted to be a particular size. But I know when I feel blobby. Sizes vary between shops. I think you need to reach whatever weight/size you feel happy at, regardless of scales/shop sizes.

DeputyBrennan · 24/06/2018 22:35

I'd also like to add that I'd much rather be a stone or two heavier and have a healthy relationship with food than be the size I am and a slave to binge/restrict cycles (I know that 1000 calories per day is hardly starvation, but when I was under medical supervision I did find that around 2100 was what I required to maintain my weight).

namechangemynameagain · 24/06/2018 22:35

Size 8 all my life, now mid 40s. I had my dcs in my 40s.

I am active, and can run a half marathon without any effort. I regularly do. I eat a high fat diet, healthy fats though. It fills me up so I don't get hungry or over eat. Don't have a sweet tooth so I get my calories from savoury food not cakes and desserts.

I don't know whether things will change post menopause, but I guess I'll find out in a few years!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 24/06/2018 22:35

Genetic Luck and a naturally small appetite. I am 41 and a size 8/10. Does not vary much. Never really been interested in exercising. I love food and will enjoy most things. I don't know why I am this size I can only conclude I must eat less than other people. Or have fast metabolism? Sorry but that's just the truth

Same here, but I'm well aware that mid-40's can change things a lot, particularly if you don't exercise. I'm bracing for it (and taken up running again).

Sorry but that's just the truth as well! Grin

Hohofortherobbers · 24/06/2018 22:35

Think it must be genetic. I exercise moderately but eat like a horse and my weight stays 8st 12lb (5'8"tall). Had 2 dc and didn't struggle to lose weight. Maybe metabolism will slow after 40, ask me later on this year

lunatunes · 24/06/2018 22:37

I have to watch what I eat more and train harder than I did in my twenties to keep to a size 8.

missmapp · 24/06/2018 22:38

I am 46 and a size 8. It is a mix of good genes, that fact I don't really like carbs and regular excersize. I run about 25 miles a week so that helps but I snack too much. Without the running i would not be this size. Def harder to stay the same size over 40 though

MikeUniformMike · 24/06/2018 22:39

Eat slowly. Chew your food.

WingsOnMyBoots · 24/06/2018 22:40

I'm in my early 50's and size 10. For me it's all about keeping the carbs down and walking every about 3 miles a day with the dog.

namechangemynameagain · 24/06/2018 22:41

'This is the funniest thread ever. And we wonder why men still don’t take us seriously'

I kind of agree! It really isn't rocket science. If you eat too much and move too little you will gain weight.

Helmetbymidnight · 24/06/2018 22:44

Are you suggesting men spend their free time discussing rocket science?

Mistigri · 24/06/2018 22:46

It seems to be down to luck as much as anything.

I'm in my 50s, size 8 and have been the same weight - excluding pregnancies - for the best part of 40 years. I eat what I like and I don't exercise specifically, although I don't have a car so I walk/ cycle every day (but not enough to explain why I never gain weight). I do eat smaller portions than a lot of people and I often leave food on my plate but I don't think that explains it either. I do think that body composition (I'm naturally muscular) and metabolism must play a role.

eightfacesofthemoon · 24/06/2018 22:49

@Helmetbymidnight
Don’t they? I presumed they did, and that all we did is worry about how many calories we consume to stay perfect. Wink

MikeUniformMike · 24/06/2018 22:49

It's nothing to do with luck.

Nanna50 · 24/06/2018 22:53

Just wondering about those in their 50's staying the same dress size because I'm in my 50's but when I was a young a 38" bust / hips was a size 14 to16, is it now a size 10?

QueenOfMyWorld · 24/06/2018 22:53

Don't eat the way you really want to eat.I have to eat less than id like to stay a 10 and I'm 38.I love every food that's bad for me just like most people but I've accepted I can't indulge as often as I did in my 30s

MrsJBaptiste · 24/06/2018 22:53

I feel like to do this I would have to really restrict myself food wise and keep to a strict gym regime

Er yes, this is exactly what you have to do to keep your weight in check!

At 40, I'm slimmer and fitter than I've ever been due to watching my diet and multiple long gym sessions each week. I also lift more weights than I used to and have really noticed a difference in how this affects my body 👍

AhhhhThatsBass · 24/06/2018 22:54

This is probably going to sound like a stealth boast but I am a size 4-6, fairly toned and eat what I want (regularly 4 mars bars and 3packets of crisps per day). I do very little exercise and eat a huge amount of junk food (as my “snacks” imply. In fact my insides are probably fucked and my heart is probably creaking towards a heart attack.
Two probable reasons I’m thin, one, genetics, two I inadvertently do the 16 hour fast thing every day as I don’t eat breakfast. Oh and possibly because I’m not a massive boozer.

It’s probably better to be healthy rather than super slim, I’ll probably end up with diabetes.

ReanimatedSGB · 24/06/2018 22:55

Learn, once and for all, that it is fine to be fat. Fat people can be much healthier than thin ones. All the pissing and moaning about obesity has a lot to do with the diet industry (which is a scam equal to all religions) wanting to take more money off people.
If you have health issues, look at this site.
