With your very loud petrol lawnmower?

But if he did it at 6 it would just be as noisy then.

Oneinthegrave · 24/06/2018 20:23

Probably reasonable but my NDN has been mowing since 7 and still going and it’s not so pleasant. Done the back and onto the front, just had a peek out the window and he’s still got about half left! Feel like going out there to do it for him. Don’t know how DC are sleeping through it, I was hoping for a very early night Sad

amusedbush · 24/06/2018 20:26

Last night the children in my street were screaming like banshees at 10.30pm. I’d much rather listen to a lawn mower.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/06/2018 20:27

People mow lawns when they have time and can be arsed. When do you mow your lawns OP?

If now is that time you have to suck it up unfortunately. I'm sure they would rather be relaxing quietly with a drink but needs must.

OkMaybeNot · 24/06/2018 20:28

They have a small baby themselves so are years away from having to worry about early school runs with cranky children.

Still chugging away...

I give it another minute or two before someone leans out of their window and tells him to shut it Grin

I’m a SAHM so do my lawns during the week. If I worked though Id have to do it at weekends. Some people have friends round and relax during the day. Then it could be really annoying. Some people have a drink in the evening. Then it could be really annoying. Some people like a lie in in the morning. Then it could be really annoying. Difficult. You can please some of the people some of the time.......etc

MiniCooperLover · 24/06/2018 20:34

It's 8.30pm, not 11pm.

OddBoots · 24/06/2018 20:34

I'm not doing mine today but if it needed doing it would be evening, it is far too hot to do it in the day and a sunny day is when the neighbours would want to be out enjoying their gardens.

Singadream · 24/06/2018 20:36

Hmmm. Our lovely neighbour is often drilling etc in his garden (terrace hiuse) at that time just as I am putting the kids to bed. It is annoying. But I don’t say anything.

sarcasmisnotthelowestformofwit · 24/06/2018 20:36

I thought it wrong to do it at all on a Sunday!! I don't let dh.

Bluntness100 · 24/06/2018 20:37

It's too hot to do it during the day and could lead to the grass being scalded. Plus who the hell wants to be pushing round a petrol mower in the heat? Best time of night for it, sorry op

Bluntness100 · 24/06/2018 20:38

What? Why?

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/06/2018 20:38

I'm just thankful the dry weather has significantly curbed the grass growing and I can cut the grass less often. I normally do it in the days running up to the emptying of the brown bin, but it's due to be emptied tomorrow and the grass has almost not grown in the last 2 weeks so it can manage a little while longer.

ComeToTheCoast · 24/06/2018 20:39

I actually like the sound of a lawnmower in the evening, it's summery Smile

But then, I like the washing machine on at night, it makes me feel cosy Blush

HolyMountain · 24/06/2018 20:39

Nah, wouldn’t bother me at all.

Lawnmowers and kids playing in their garden doesn’t get me hot under the collar like some others on here feel.

Aragog · 24/06/2018 20:39

I wouldn't do it at 8pm in a Sunday evening when it's school the best day. I know that several of our neighbours have young children who would be in bed at that time, so wouldn't make a loud prolonged noise. It's called being considerate.

CrochetBelle · 24/06/2018 20:42

I wouldn't, but it's still so hot here at 8.40 that it wouldn't be unsurprising for someone to be waiting for it to cool before they struggle again during the week due to working.
I did mine just after 6 and was sweltering.

wheezing · 24/06/2018 20:42

Oh I like the sound of lawn mowers.. it’s the sound of summer!

I have a two year old and it wouldn’t bother me. It’s not that loud with the windows closed and anyway it’s a constant sound so is white noise-y no? Lots of things we have to get used to hearing every now and then, like sirens and car alarms and loud cars are much more annoying.

amusedbush · 24/06/2018 20:43

Kids playing in their garden is fine. Constant screaming (and I mean actual screaming) from a large group of kids under my living room window from 6pm to 10.30pm is not.

But if you dare say anything about it one of their parents turns up and screams in your face about who the fuck you think you are asking their child to quieten down.

Allthecake · 24/06/2018 20:45

For what it's worth OP I'm sort of with you. I have a neighbour who does this about half nine/ten and always think it inconsiderate but tbh it's never woken the kids. We don't have grass so I've never mown a lawn, didn't consider it would be difficult to do in hot weather. I do think 10pm is taking the piss a bit though!

StaplesCorner · 24/06/2018 20:46

Better than cleaning your car with a hoover and pressure washer outside your neighbours bedroom at 7am every Saturday.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 24/06/2018 20:51

Meh
Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Much better than next door's yappy dog who barks all day during the week when they're at work.
It's summer OP and the world doesn't revolve around you.
Think about it. It's such a first world problem.

eddielizzard · 24/06/2018 20:51

my sympathies. that would wind me up too. my neighbours vacuum their front door step at 8am every saturday morning without fail. urgh

Getoffthetableplease · 24/06/2018 20:52

Oh God, StaplesCorner, I think you got our old neighbours. That was before we had children too, so his early starts outside felt even more torturous.

OP, yabu. Besides, if he has a massive lawn does that mean you live in massive houses and can hide away on a quiet wing Wink

specialsubject · 24/06/2018 20:54

for all the listed reasons it cannot be done in the day. i would say be finished by 9.

and hope the hosepipe is plants not lawn - dont water the lawn!
