AIBU to wonder why you'd do this in a graveyard?

So we were walking down the road next to the local church today and a man was pacing across the stretch of the graveyard, but then I noticed a pair of shoes on the ground & then that he was barefoot.. Hmm

Is this a thing?

My friend said maybe he's pacing the distance between graves, but why would you take your shoes off?

Any ideas? Is this something priests do?

The graveyard doesn't have any recent burials, it's a very old one, with very spread out gravestones.. if that's at all relevant to the situation.

Walking barefoot on grass, on a hot day, is bliss. Perhaps he was just doing it for pleasure?

Clairetree1 · 23/06/2018 23:14

why would he need a reason?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/06/2018 23:16

A graveyard is less likely to be covered in dogshit than a park, if he was intent on barefoot walking.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/06/2018 23:20

@70isaLimitNotaTarget funny you should mention that... I was about to say I think the only reason I found it odd was it's somewhere I would tread carefully in shoes never mind barefoot due to dog shit levels Sad

I don’t think it would bother me, the buried won’t mind too much Grin

I have no idea why but I also think this is weird - gives me a funny feeling 🙈

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 24/06/2018 00:22

Ooh I don't know, maybe because he's in a bloody graveyard Shock

graveyards can be lovely places. I spend quite a lot of time siting and walking in graveyards, they can be beautiful peaceful and full of wildlife. No reason to exclude them from places you spend your leisure just because of the burials, in fact I like the idea that those who went before us, in some cases hundreds of years before us, are still a little part of our day to day lives in this way. I hope I will also be a place where other people enjoy being, when I am in the ground!

Could he have been looking for a lost grave perhaps?

Feeling for sunken ground or an old flat gravemarker with his feet?

Vitalogy · 24/06/2018 06:16

Easier to connect to the earth energies.

speakout · 24/06/2018 06:27

Vitalogy yes my thoughts- he may be earthing.

Walking barefoot is a good way to connect with the earth and perhaps ancestors.
