To beg please please don't do this at a school event

Just come back from a lovely school picnic in honour of Jo Cox.

It seems that at event after event (plays, concerts, picnics) this same thing keeps on happening.

It's about viewing etiquette. (All four things happened yesterday while I was trying to see my DD sing with he ks1 choir)

That you;

A) Don't push to the front with your toddler on hip and walk back and forth in front of the choir so the 'baby can see' (yes your baby can see, but no one else can- how about standing at the side at the front or stand stil?)
B) push to the front and stand up with your iPad blocking all the people sitting behind you
C) laugh and chat loudly with your friends because your child in ks2 choir finished singing 10 mins ago (this one in particularly pissed me off because some of the children were reception age and were clearly nervous
D) if you are a 6'5 man standing where people couldn't get a seat, don't stand right at the front where everybody else can't see.

It seems to happen every event. At dds nativity a mum sat on the front row with her parka hood up then tutted at my mum who was sat behind when she asked her to put it down so people could see past

And put your phone away the people behind you don’t want to be forced to watch the performance through your bloody screen.

God yes. I'd fine all those annoying. Especially D because there's just no excuse but all are awful. C not far behind D!

D - A in that order if anyone cares about my rankings!

Sadly schools probably need to advise those attending about consideration for others. And be brave enough to refuse entry in future to those whose behaviour is the most inconsiderate.

the phone one, in particular, drives me insane. How can it not occur to people that they are blocking the view of those behind. The most incredible bit is that sometimes people stand up to film so they can get a perfect view.

Gives me the rage.

I can't stand this. I noticed that my children's school this was so bad last year that the headmistress actually had to say something. It worked because at the last event, all the parents that wanted to view their child's performance came to the front and sat on the floor. Then swapped the next group. One person filmed and shared the film on the class WhatsApp. It was amazing. Everyone could finally enjoy a performance.

Just "hate those tall people so bloody selfish" 🤔 actually they are just tall

I must be a right cranky bag, as I'd yell "Oy, you at the front, you're blocking my view" at all of them.

Littlebillie, my oh is 6"7 but wouldn't dream of being ignorant enough to stand in front of someone and block their view.
Unfortunately it is a symptom of alot of today's entitled parents, who have no manners or consideration for others.

Well no @littlebillie they're not just tall; they're tall and standing at the front, that's pretty different. No one should stand at the front but if you happen to be 6'5'' and even more likely to be completely obstructing someone's view you should be aware and get out of the way!

If you arrive late and don't get a good seat that's your problem.

Why cant all phones just be banned? Turn up, smile at your child, enjoy the show?
That way my adopted kids could take part too insteading of being left out again due to the risks involved with them being photographed......and i can moan about the tall guy sat in front of me 😉

littlebillie my husband is 6ft 4, he makes sure he's not in anyone's way and every concert, event, cinema he's been to he always turns and checks the person behind can see. In my experience, lots of tall men do this. Unfortunately you get plenty of inconsiderate ones that don't care.

And if your toddler/ baby cries or talks incessantly, take them bloody out!

At the school I teach in, events filming is banned. We have a lot of "at risk" children who cannot be filmed.

If it's something like a concert, a teacher will film a rehearsal without those children, so parents can buy a copy. Unfortunately, for something like Sports Day, parents have to commit their PFB dropping their egg and spoon to memory.

It does mean that there aren't entitled parents with iPads blocking everything, which is great.

At Ds2's Christingle service in the school hall last year, parents of reception children were pushing past staff and other children to get photographs of their children holding the Christingles during the final hymn after the HT had asked everyone to wait until afterwards for pictures. The staff had to hurriedly extinguish several candles to avoid anyone getting burned. The sense of entitlement was ridiculous!

In our new school videos and photography is completely banned.

Have to say, it improves things considerably.

What should the tall man do? Get a wheelchair?

Not stand up right in the front? Have a little awareness of other people around you? If you're at the front sit down to let others behind see especially if you happen to be tall.

We cant do sports days, xmas concerts, class plays etc etc...unless my kid is in costume with face obscured as school refuse to ban photos in case it 'upsets parents' 😕

My school refuse to accept this occurs - i have 2 in nursery and would love to get the photo rules overtured so my kids can take part - my yr6 child has never ever competed in sports day sadly 😓

I don't think those sort of people actually care if they're blocking someone else's view. If they can be where they want to be and film what they want to film, everyone else can go hang.

Awful attitude, but there's an awful lot of it about.

if you are tall you can see fine over everyone else! So can happily stand behind others. It's just common sense.

Can I add 'Allowing your pre-schooler to stand on their chair' thus blocking everyone else's view - including that of other pre-schoolers? (And making the chair mucky for the next person).

Yes that's my thoughts on v tall people. Stand to the side, or at least check around so that you aren't blocking anyone (I am 5'4 and this happens kind of a lot)

The man yesterday was also a 'big' man so not too easy to see around.

I just hate how entitled and not considerate of others people are. Pushing shoving to get to the front. Makes me sad. And very very angry.
