I'm sure I'm too young to have so many aches and pains when I first get up in the morning! I'm 28 years old and always wake up with terrible lower back pains, achey ankles and really sore joints in my fingers from where (I think) I lay on my hands in the night. It all wears off after a while, but am I slowly falling apart or is this normal?!

OP posts:

I used to have terrible achey ankles when I got up in the morning , since taking vitamin D supplements it has completely gone.

UndomesticHousewife · 24/06/2018 00:31

My whole body ached when I woke up for a long long time and continued through the day sometimes, it's gone now after the doctor put me on iron and folate tablets. Also it used to go when I low carb

Madhouse2018 · 24/06/2018 00:33

I used to feel terrible in the mornings until I got a good mattress. Positioning and posture are important for breastfeeding Up your intake of calcium.

AlbaFloss · 24/06/2018 00:37

Very interested to hear it is likely BF-related - I too have been waking up achey and wondering : worrying , DD does tend to nurse most of the night - anyone offer explanations as to WHY we feel stiff and achey because of BFing? Like, all over, not just upper torso as might be expected because of positioning?
(OP, is your little one in bed with you all night? Mine is. The aches are worth it for me though!)

MovingThisYearHopefully · 24/06/2018 00:55

I ache like fuck the whole time. I have osteoarthritis & fibromyalgia. I wake up for a few minutes & take tramadol a few hours before getting up so I can get out of bed, followed by other delights I take with breakfast, which consists of my first cup of tea!

BertieBotts · 24/06/2018 01:02

I really struggle to get up in the mornings but I'm never achy. Not when I was breastfeeding either although I did get an achy hip when I was co sleeping.

I find spring mattresses much worse for aching than foam.

Ellie73 · 24/06/2018 01:06

It could be your mattress as manybhave said but it could also be a lack of magnesium. I would try taking a spoon full of magnesium and zinc combined for a week to see if it helps. I had the same issue and after taking these supplements that I bought in a liquid formula they all went away.

chockaholic72 · 24/06/2018 05:27

45 and very achey - sometimes I have to roll on my front and get up on all fours. Turns out it can be a symptom of perimenopause and I'm now on HRT.

TeeBee · 24/06/2018 06:16

I'm 45 and only wake up achy if I've kicked it at the gym.

speakout · 24/06/2018 06:23

I'm 56 and no aches- although my oblique muscles are a little stiff from so many side planks at the gym on Friday.

lovesugarfreejelly63 · 24/06/2018 06:34

Whoopsie, am in my 70's and leap out of bed every morning, no aches, but I have got a new mattress which is great, get yourself checked out to eliminate any possible illnesses, then change your mattress if you can.

Believeitornot · 24/06/2018 06:46

I get a really bad lower back ache if my core muscles are losing strength. When I'm doing semi-regular yoga or bodyweight exercises, no aches and pains

I’m the same. I need to get my core strength back up as I’ve now got a bad hip from over doing it running.

whojamaflip · 24/06/2018 07:20

In my 40s and used to have really stiff joints esp ankles when I woke in the morning - blood tests ruled out all usual causes so assumed it was just getting older. Stiffness and aches would wear off with half hour of getting up so just got on with life.

Was diagnosed with ibs 3 years ago and by a process of elimination found wheat was my main trigger - cut that out of my diet and my aches disappeared- fell off the wagon quite spectacularly last Christmas and within 2 days was hobbling again. So it looks like wheat is the culprit. Just a thought.

MrsMWA · 24/06/2018 07:23

Another one with RA here. Go to your GP and get a blood test. If it is arthritis it needs treating ASAP to prevent long term damage.

Allyg1185 · 24/06/2018 07:27

Im 32 and wake up with an aching lower back. Bought a new mattress and it has improved but it's not 100%. Ive started doing lower back exercises and swimming three times a week to see if that helps

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 24/06/2018 08:20

I have clicky ankles and knees. I ache from my waist down when I get up and struggle with stairs for the first 10 mins.

I have bulging discs in my back though and am on various medication for the pain I get

Okokiknow · 25/06/2018 06:49

Whoopsie. I am breastfeeding a 15 month old! So that explains it then! I was just thunking but i felt like this for about 6 years now. Well i have 3 kids. Eldest is 5. Take pregnancy into account and i have only not breastfed for 9 months in 5 years... that'll do it! 3 kids down the line and my body feels very week. Km going to get some vitamin supps today

Kingsclerelass · 25/06/2018 07:19

I think you need to buy a decent mattress. I’m mid fifties and I only ache if I’ve exercised hard, the day before.

I lived at my ex’s house though and slept on his 28 year old mattress, and was in agony within a week or two. I replaced it, problem disappeared immediately.

PollyPelargonium52 · 25/06/2018 07:23

Maybe go to the osteopath?

adaline · 25/06/2018 07:25

I'm 29 and have had issues with my back since I was in my teens.

I often wake up with back pain but then I normally experience some form of back or shoulder pain everyday, so it's not unusual for me. It happens at night because I'm not stretching or moving around much.

Soloooo · 25/06/2018 07:26

Mid fifties. Sometimes I ache a lot, sometimes not at all and I can’t work out the trigger.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 25/06/2018 08:08

I'm 38 and am very achy, especially in the morning.
But I do have fibromyalgia though.

NC4Now · 25/06/2018 08:15

I’m really achey in the mornings at 41. My back is agony but it loosens during the day.
I’ve replaced the mattress but it hasn’t helped, so I’m worrying about arthritis.

shockthemonkey · 25/06/2018 08:37

Blood test for autoimmune diseases such as RA, lupus etc.

At 50+ I often wake up feeling as if I’ve run a marathon with no training or done three rounds with Mike Tyson. In my case it’s Lupus and Sjögren’s syndrome. It’s not normal at all to wake up so achey and I initially put my symptoms down to my advancing years. Just see your gp and ask for the tests🌸
