to think we're reading too much into Melania's jacket?

Wearing a jacket with a message saying "I don't care, do you" on it to a detention camp is a very weird choice.

But all the people saying it's a message about immigrants, or a message about her feelings on her marriage or whatever else is... stretching it a bit.

She's a woman who isn't known for her towering intellect and is stuck in a marriage to the orange one. She never wanted to be first lady. She has been dragged into stuff she has no interest in.

So she's grabbed a coat without pausing to think about it, and been seen wearing it before someone could provide something more appropriate. It;s not a message. It's the actions of someone fairly dim and uneducated, and who doesn't understand the political game.

Publically not biblically Grin

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 22/06/2018 15:43

I preferred. biblically, quite an image

PolkerrisBeach · 22/06/2018 15:44

The magazines and chat shows are going to pay her a bloody fortune for her story after she divorces him. She will have a lot to say I;m sure.

I think she was set-up by one of her ‘aides’ and is too stupid to realise. I mean if someone is helping you get dressed it would be quite easy to have a coat out on you without even seeing the back.

Skarossinkplunger · 22/06/2018 15:49

I even willing to go as far as believing it was her husband that set her up. They don’t appear to like each other much.

petrolpump28 · 22/06/2018 15:51

Michelle was classy.

crumpet · 22/06/2018 15:53

It won’t have been a “message” but was totally tone deaf and not to have realised how inappropriate it would be to wear it demonstrates a total lack of awareness and sensitivity.

WigglyBlossom · 22/06/2018 15:56

So she's grabbed a coat without pausing to think about it

According to a lady on the BBC this morning it was 32C where she flew from and hotter than that where she was going. She also has a team of advisors, so I doubt it was an oversight.

StormTreader · 22/06/2018 15:56

It's pretty easy to see through.

They decided they needed the publicity of someone visiting the detention centre because they were getting so much press on it.
She wore a coat that GUARANTEED everyone will remember that she visited the centre - what the coat said will fade in a few months, but the fact she visited will remain and because of the coat EVERYONE knows she went.

smithsinarazz · 22/06/2018 15:58

If it was accidental then any decent person would be making very public statements distancing themselves from the apparent message.

But no decent person could spend five minutes in a room with Trump without asking him what the fuck he's playing at, surely?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/06/2018 16:06

Seen this?

to think we're reading too much into Melania's jacket?
ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/06/2018 16:07

This is woman who usually wears designer clothes.

There's no way she just "grabbed a coat" because the coats she would be likely to grab are nothing like the old Zara.

She had something in mind, but quite what is not clear.

ALemonyPea · 22/06/2018 16:08

She’s not some Z list celebrity doing charity work to bump up their publicity. She’s married to the POTUS, one of the most powerful (god help us) men in the world at the moment and millions of people will be looking at photos/news coverage of her arriving at a place receiving such negative press. She knew what she was doing.

PolkerrisBeach · 22/06/2018 16:09

I don't believe that tweet is genuine.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/06/2018 16:09

Just saw that tweet.

Is she drunk? Or is her account hacked? Or is this a fake account?

No one is this blinkered.

FuckPants · 22/06/2018 16:10

She knew what she was doing by wearing that jacket.

MissMarplesKnitting · 22/06/2018 16:11

It's s shiny object, don't get distracted.

Everyone is now talking about this and NOT the child detention camps.

It's EXACTLY what they wanted. Done on purpose to distract from the real issues.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 22/06/2018 16:11

Maybe she’s had a mental
Breakdown. Maybe that’s why she disappeared for weeks

jay55 · 22/06/2018 16:11

It’s july and she was heading to hot as hell Texas, why did she need a coat at all?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/06/2018 16:12

That tweet is not on her twitter account.

StormTreader · 22/06/2018 16:14

That tweet is from a satire page

iismum · 22/06/2018 16:14

I think the politically subversive explanation is that she wore it to kind of represent the sentiments of the establishment and hold them up to scrutiny - we don't care - and then it is inviting people to think about whether they really care. Because very few people would be happy to admit to themselves and others that they don't care about the extreme distress of young children. They will explain it away and justify it and claim it isn't their fault, but to actually state you don't care is an extreme position even for a Trump voter and maybe could make people think twice.

I could just about believe that was possible if it was someone else wearing the coat, but pretty hard to believe of Melania!

iismum · 22/06/2018 16:16

I don't agree - I think this has highlighted the problem and worsened the controversy.

mydietstartsmonday · 22/06/2018 16:16

Stupid, stupid woman, who in their own mind would wear that when going to wear she was going, What is the matter with her and her advisers. Absolutely shocking if she knew what was happening and absolutely shocking if she didn't.
