We're going to look like knobs aren't we?

Yesterday we were extremely lucky and won a small electric remote controlled ride in car for toddler dd. She's obsessed with it, we're ecstatic, truly an awesome prize. But we gave nowhere to drive it at home.

Are we going to look like complete knobs driving our kid around in her own convertible in public or AIBU to already be internally cringing (And slightly cracking up) at the image?

Nah you’ll be fine. Take her to the park with it. You’ll get longing looks from other children!

Haberpop · 22/06/2018 09:46

Your daughter is going to be over the moon for now and in a while her obsession will wane and people will move on to judging someone else. As they used to say, today's news is tomorrow's chip paper.

AhoyDelBoy · 22/06/2018 09:47

Yes, you'll look like knobs. Doesn't seem like you have much choice though since you can't use it at home Smile Enjoy! However 'knob-like' I imagine she'll look quite cute.

lardymclardy · 22/06/2018 09:48

Grin Yep,

but it's an amazing prize for a youngster and she'll have so much fun AND be the most popular kid in the park! Make sure she's rocking some shades and bling - I'm jealous. Have fun!

TrudeauGirl · 22/06/2018 09:48

That's a fun prize to win :-) Don't worry what other people will think, take her to the park and watch her enjoy it. It sounds cute.

PositivelyPERF · 22/06/2018 09:49

So long as you’re taking her to the park and not using the pavement, I don’t see a problem with it. I’d be worried about her safety in such a toy, as it only takes one mistake for her to end up off the path and into the road.

isseywithcats · 22/06/2018 09:49

no you wont my grandson has one of these and my son takes him to the park with it lots of space to ride round in

Hannabee123 · 22/06/2018 09:50

Nah you won't look like knobs I've seen alot worse in public 😂

Thesearmsofmine · 22/06/2018 09:50

I’ve seen people using these at the park, I didn’t think they were knobs!

RightOnTheEdge · 22/06/2018 09:51

I saw (actually heard first) a tiny girl in one of those cars coming up my street. It also had music blaring out!

I thought it was hilarious, in a good way though not a judgy way.

Just let your dd enjoy it and try not to worry about how nobby it looks Grin

Lemond1fficult · 22/06/2018 09:52

Congratulations on your win!

However, I've never quite forgotten this article by Charlie Brooker: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/apr/21/how-do-you-spoil-a-five-year-old

So maybe do take her out, but do prepare for some unreasonable other-toddler behaviour.

crumpet · 22/06/2018 09:52

Parenting means losing your dignity in so many ways, don’t worry!

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 22/06/2018 09:54

yes, you will Grin
but all parents do.

Don't worry, you will have your revenge when she is a teenager!

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/06/2018 09:55

Of course you won't look like knobs. Who thinks like that? Confused

Just take her to the park or other safe area. If you're lucky to live in a quiet estate, there might be some outdoor space in walking distance (where I am, we get about 2 cars an hour on the road, there's always DCs playing there and there's a huge paved and grassed area at the side of our house that would be perfect for your DD and the car. There's even picnic benches to sit on).

MeMyselfand · 22/06/2018 09:56

Get a trailer for it so you can get a lift.

My youngest (11) still looks on in envy when she sees a child in one because she had a deprived childhood and never got one 🙄🤣

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 22/06/2018 09:57

The prize might attract some attention but just focus on DD having a lovely time. Smile

ImperfectTents · 22/06/2018 09:58

I'm with Charlie brooker

PhilODox · 22/06/2018 09:58

How amazing for her! She'll remember it forever- make sure you get lots of photos of her driving it Smile
She's a wee child, how will she look like a knob?

IfNot · 22/06/2018 09:59

Humph. In my day I had to pedal my own car.Envy

AlpacaBag · 22/06/2018 10:01

not at all! We live right opposite a playground and lots of little kids are in them on there, it's a conversation starter! x

KaosReigns · 22/06/2018 10:01

It plays a spoken word version of if you're happy and you know it Grin

We will just rock looking slightly ridiculous, DD is very enthusiastic about life in general so we're pretty used to getting looks by now. My MIL and friend both agreed with me so it's nice to hear some dissent.

KaosReigns · 22/06/2018 10:03

Phil sorry I didn't mean she would look like a knob, just us trailing along behind our incredibly spoilt child, who knowing her will likely be laughing maniacally.

jaseyraex · 22/06/2018 10:03

Have you got a park nearby you could take it to? I'd advise against driving it on the pavement unless she's a competent driver Grin
My DS has an electric Lightning McQueen ride in car that we take to the park. He'd spend all day driving round in it if we let him!

catinasplashofsunshine · 22/06/2018 10:05

When my youngest was a toddler a little girl in our village had one of those. Her granddad remote controlled her down the pavement to the playground, then whichever toddlers were there took turns in it with her (or without her if she'd got bored of it and got out to play in the sandpit).

It was a good way for her to make friends actually!

You'll be popular if you go to a quiet neighbourhood playground and let other kids have goes if they are there :o Wouldn't work somewhere busy with too many kids obviously, or somewhere with pushy or bad mannered kids where a riot might break out over it or kids too old for it might try to get in.

So it depends where you live I guess.

You'd only look a knob if you didn't let a wistfully watching, polite correct age child have a go too :o

BuckysRoboticArm · 22/06/2018 10:08

I’d be nudging my dh and saying look how awesome that car is! My 3 year old dd would probably be running after it lol.
