Aggressive woman in softplay

So, went to softplay today (go all the time with my two very young dcs)

Another lady (i’ll call her Waynetta) was there with her gc.

Her gc was throwing food in the toddler area, crunching it on everything, everywhere and the woman was wearing her dirty shoes in the baby/toddlers play area. A member of staff told her to take her shoes off and remove the food as it is not allowed in the play area and is unhygienic but she hadn’t.

My youngest (1) climbed up to the top of the ladder and ended up on the platform and beside the woman’s gc. He put his hand in the girls bag of puffs (because he is a baby and saw puffs!) and I took it straight back out again and said no, not your puffs. the woman went mental - said my child had no manners and needed to ‘gerrof her (gd) puffs’ and be taught some manners (!)

I told her that my child is a baby and there is nothing wrong re my child’s manners thank you and that her gc shouldn’t have food in there anyway and that I had heard her being told to take it out. I also said I heard that she (grandmother) had been told to remove her own shoes yet still had them on in there where babies crawl around and it was unhygienic.

Waynetta went ballistic. Member of staff had returned and witnessed this and told her to take food out, take shoes off and that they don’t tolerate aggressive/abusive behaviour. Waynetta then said she’d be bringing her daughter to ‘floor me’ and the member of staff too and that we’d both Be knocked out.

My response was wtaf?

I took my dcs and went to find manager.

Manager tells me Waynetta has been caught stealing drinks from them, has been rude etc and could see I was shaken and upset.

Manager returns with me and Waynetta keeps on

Manager doesn’t make her leave!

Waynetta leaves shortly after but again threatens member of staff that her ‘daughter will be coming with her next time and so she will see what happens!’

I get upset and in my view this woman should be banned.

I’ve never experienced such a violent personality in a soft play place.

Should I be taking This further? Waynetta goes there as often as I do but I’ve previously been warned off her as she is odd.

I feel I can’t go there but I don’t have any other one to go to! Why should I have to stop going when I didn’t do anything wrong.

From my experience alot of soft plays we visited in the UK were full of this type of person! Disgusting, loud, always shouting at other kids parents. I stopped taking my eldest. There are much better things to do with the kids.

ApolloniaC · 21/06/2018 16:59

Waynetta slob from Harry Enfield! Come on!!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/06/2018 17:01

roses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shock

Just type the name into google, but beware - it is far too easy to get lost in Wayne's World - as I just did! Grin

Poodles1980 · 21/06/2018 17:12

Someone explain to me what soft play is. Is it like an indoor playground and do you go to groups like a playgroup there?

Poodles1980 · 21/06/2018 17:12

I should say I’m not from the UK

I Googled it Shock Is it a TV show or something?

A bit mean to call her that OP, but I daresay she isn't exactly undeserving of it. I'd put in a strong complaint, perhaps, but still not take the children again. That way you can do something about her but not endanger your children.

Yes, an indoor playground is probably the best way to put it.

But it's all "soft", as the name suggests, so not much chance of injury.

Roses Yes! It was Harry Enfield and Chums, mid to late 90s - the chum in quesion was the rather wonderful Kathy Burke!

I don't really like him as much as I would watch aynthing she is in, from Scrubbers, Gimme Gimme Gimme and Ab Fab to the horrific but mesmerising film Nil by Mouth with Ray Winston, the equally horrific, based on a true story Mr Wroes Virgins (I can't bring myself to describe some of that) to Tinker Tailor Solder Spy and Anita and Me... she is a wondrous actress!

DaphneDiligaf · 21/06/2018 17:45

I dont think that is correct about not recording children on cctv as local swimming pool does it.

Hmm - maybe I'll see if I can find it somewhere.

We've been watching Love Island recently and, enjoyable as it is, DH says we should try and find something to detox our heads Grin

ALongHardWinter · 21/06/2018 18:29

What is about softplay that seems to bring out the worst in some people?!

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 21/06/2018 18:38

Lack of fresh air, the noise, the light, the screams, other people in general and all kind of parenting clashing up, all a recipe for disaster Grin

mintich · 21/06/2018 18:49

I had something like this today!! My friends little girl was being pushed by an older girl (in a very nasty bullying way), my friend took her daughter away and said that's not nice, then Waynetta #2 came over screaming like a banshee that we had tried to discipline her girl and if we didn't want our kids pushed, we shouldnt bring them to soft play! The manager did nothing even though other kids were crying now because she was so aggressive. Its completely ruined a nice place for us.

mintich · 21/06/2018 18:53

I used to have a bad temper about aggressive people like that and would go at them but now I have my daughter, I'm trying to rein that in as I'd hate to scare my daughter or other children.Shame the Waynettas of the world can't do that!

MissionItsPossible · 21/06/2018 19:06

@rosesandflowers1

Shock Is that what soft play is? All this time I've been on here and reading threads that mention this I was imagining Wacky Warehouse type places.

MissionItsPossible · 21/06/2018 19:07

I just thought it was a posh way of saying it. Confused

NomNomNomNom · 21/06/2018 19:10

You sound very superior. And it's sounds like a non-event.

WTAF? I'm pretty depressed by the life if you leave if you think being shouted at and physically threatened in a children's play area is a non-event!

KurriKurri · 21/06/2018 19:14

I think you are being very optimistic to imagine any soft play is clean. They really aren't. Steer clear of the ball pit especially.

PoisonousSmurf · 21/06/2018 19:27

Here you go...

Well, Wacky Warehouse - at least in the UK - IS a soft play? Confused

Every Wacky Warehouse I've seen looks considerably different to the picture posted by roses...

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 21/06/2018 20:05

The picture looks more like a baby soft play, soft play-cafe or a rental soft play I guess.

Most soft plays I know are the bigger hellish kind

Sorry but can't stop laughing at "gerrof me puffs"🤣

Thewheelshavefallenoffthebus · 22/06/2018 19:42

Gameframe? Really? I ‘am a dick for pointing out her misdemeanours?’.

You must either be her or be related to her.

If you call;

  • Stealing
  • Threatening
  • Ignoring hygiene requirements
  • Being rude
  • Being aggressive

‘Misdemeanours’ that should not be mentioned as mentioning them means you are a dick, then you clearly have social etiquette problems that no one on her could resolve.

For everyone else, thank you for your support.

I went today - and was greeted by a lot of my friends which made me feel supported. Waynetta (love the video clip posted!) wasn’t there. The general manager came and found me and hadn’t been given my number. He has promised to deal with it fully ☺️

Waynetta is due back there next week (a day I am meeting a friend there)....so I’m not looking forward to it but I’m not going to be intimidated into not going because I’ve done nothing wrong.
