to ask him to wear headphones if he wants to listen to music in the office

I'm covering for someone for three weeks in a small room with only a few of us.

One guy listens to music loudly using the laptop speakers, while bizarrely having headphones around his neck but not wearing them.

He does it for a few hours in the morning and the afternoon.

Aibu to tell him he's forgotten to plug the headphones in?

I don't want to make any trouble as only there for a bit, but it's really annoying in an office environment and making it hard to concentrate.

Is it what he normally does when you're not there? If so, YABU

Hogtini · 20/06/2018 07:13

YANBU it's so inconsiderate.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 20/06/2018 07:13

It’s rude on his part. Not the same as a majority agreed radio station.

traciebanbanjo · 20/06/2018 07:14

I don't know what he normally does.

But never worked in an office anywhere where one person plays music aloud from their laptop.

I can't even listen to my own music with headphones AD you can hear his and it clashes.

It shouldn't matter what he normally does. If it is then he should say to any newbie - hey, I do this annoying thing, do you mind if I continue? It's basic office ettiquette.

BrownTurkey · 20/06/2018 07:35

Just ask, you wouldn’t be being rude. You can smooth things over afterwards if people are annoyed about it, but no reasonable human would be. They might be glad you did!

Get in there first and play your own music loudly just to make a point. Greatest showman soundtrack perhaps

Hogtini · 20/06/2018 09:10

Ha that was going to be my other suggestion or anything he plays 'ohh I like this one sings along awfully'

Bumble1830 · 20/06/2018 09:26

Have you asked the others in the office if they mind? If they don't, then, if it was me I'd just deal with it, if they do mind, then maybe you could approach him together and suggest he wears his head phones-in a non ganging up on him way.

Yanbu at all. Sounds awful and would piss me off.
