We have a dog, she is getting on but plenty of life left in her. She is fantastic, and so good with our kids age 5 and 7. She is a large Jack Russell cross rescue dog, absolute heart of gold and wouldn't want to replace just give her a friend.
We are considering getting another and do not mind size or looks but
I want to know what you would consider a real family dog, needs to be:
--great with kids
--not too much walking up to an hour a day, longer on weekends
--happy to be alone/with other dog for 2 hrs in the day
I would love a larger dog but doesn't matter.
Ideas please

We got a rescue beagle as a companion for our spaniel. He's a lazy bugger and spends all available time flat out on the sofa or trying to steal food. He was rescued from a puppy farm so not sure if he's more food obsessed than most as a result but we've had to make various adaptations like kitchen bin in cupboard, extra fencing in garden etc. He's super soppy though and rescues literally give beagles away because they have such a bad rep. He and our spaniel adore each other and he's great with the kids (when he's not stealing their food).

Not sure where you are but have a look at the rescue charity Many Tears. Their dogs are all puppy farm rescues and many of them have to go to homes where there is already a dog,
