Just got on the train to go home. 30 minute commute. I'm 20 weeks pregnant, have been sat down for the best part of 9 hours, and chose to stand up on the train. The idea of sitting down boxed in having to worry about wrestling my way off at my stop scares me a bit and I would rather just stand by the door.

There's a woman sat directly behind me who offered me her seat. Lovely but I declined. She then mumbled the the woman next to her 'well don't blame me if you fall over and hurt your baby' to which I'm fairly sure the other woman then proceeded to call me irresponsible.

AIBU to think that at 20 weeks with a relatively small bump, very good balance, a bar to hold on to as well as a wall to perch against, that I am perfectly safe in standing up. I have haemorrhoids and could use a break from sitting on my area all day!

Or am I completely irresponsible woman for choosing to stand?

Bloody hell, I can't decide what's annoyed me more: the rudeness of the ignorant judgemental women, or NEARLY EVERYONE ELSE'S COMPLETE INABILITY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING!!! Angry
Oh, and no, YANBU chica. Good luck with your pregnancy and everything that follows, and most importantly- enjoy it! Star x

How many people actually do fall over on a train? It's very few and you're not exactly huge to the point of toppling over.

They were being nosey and rude and obviously just wanted you to accept the seat so they could look good and inwardly gloat all the way home.

Candy flip that’s so funny!

OP just ignore that comment from the two persons.

Usernamqwerty · 20/06/2018 22:32

Completely understand OP - in the second trimester, I used to commute on a crowded train as well and used to hate the 'boxed in' feeling you describe and the overcrowding used to worsen my morning sickness, so I sometimes preferred to stand by the door, despite people offering me seats!

lhastingsmua · 20/06/2018 22:35

To be honest I prefer standing up for short train journeys too, sometimes I just want my own space and I’m not pregnant! Especially if you haven’t moved around much all day. Completely understandable

It was VERY rude of her! You should have just told them about the haemorrhoids in response to that. It would have shut them up.

Kaybush · 20/06/2018 23:18

When I was pregnant with my second child, a guy at work became very concerned that in my last trimester I was still cycling to work (along a promenade) and walking the long flight of stairs to my floor, instead of using the lift.

He started to insinuate that I was being irresponsible as his own heavily pregnant wife was being very sedentary at the time (the proper way in his opinion).

It was like he was my doctor! But I subsequently lost all my baby weight in a month because of that little bit of effort (and of course my daughter was fine).

Pregnant women can become like a commodity to some people! Hmm

YRNBU. They were massively rude and the comments uncalled for.

EllenMP · 21/06/2018 11:30

Yes, that was rude of them. You are not in danger of falling as long as you have something to hold onto. Nosy busybodies. Ignore.
