To ask why the scales haven't changed but my 'wobbly middle' / 'muffin top' feels huge???!

(Also posted in the weight loss forum but thought I'd get more responses here...)

What's going on????

So the scales suggest I haven't put any weight on.
I'm 5' 10 and weigh around 9 stone 11. Ideally I'd like to be 9 stone 7 and know I need to eat better & exercise more to shred those final 4 lbs. However, I've been around the same weight for about a year now but just recently I feel much more 'fat' or bloated at least. I can grab more than a few inches around my middle and feel I have a 'muffin top' / 'spare tyre' which is much more obvious than it used to be.
My clothes do feel a bit tighter / more uncomfortable and I do often think I look fat round the middle.

Going off my height & weight though I know I'm not overweight and like I say, I've been this weight for a while now. So what could be causing the increase in size of my tummy and how can I get rid of it???
And anyone else have this???

Thanks!

You've probably lost muscle and gained fat. Do some weights/body weight exercises.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 19/06/2018 14:33

I have it. I'm not overweight but I do eat too much crap and basically I'm unfit 😁

SleepWarrior · 19/06/2018 14:37

Have you got generally less fit over that time? So a decrease in muscle mass? Posture can make a difference too. If your core strength has decreased then your posture is harder to maintain and everything sort of flops out at the middle a little more than usual! Try imagining a string attached to the top of your head, then stand up and imagine that string being pulled up. Does your stomach area pull in a bit?

Your BMI is already under 20, and your target BMI is 19.1. Since you're tall, BMI already skews you "heavier" so i suspect you are underweight, and very much doubt you have a muffin top...

GobblersKnob · 19/06/2018 19:07

What Medea said. I'm 5'10" and 11 stone, I'm not skinny but I don't have a muffin top. At 8 stone 6 I was very close to being hospitalised with an eating disorder. 9 stone 7 is pretty light for your height.

Sounds like you've lost muscle and gained fat

How old are you? I found around age 35/36 i suddenly had a bigger tummy and waist but was the same weight, even though i was very fit and exercised a lot. Concluded age/ hormonal related.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 19/06/2018 19:38

I'm 38 so yes it could be age / hormones.

I'm definitely not underweight.
My arms/ legs are quite slim and as I am tall I know I can carry any weight a bit 'easier' but I do have a saggy tummy / flabby skin around my middle which can hang over jeans / can be obvious in tighter fitting tops etc.
