At my 20 week scan. Sonographer said everything looks fine. Took a scan photo for another member of staff to look at. They want to get a photo of the nuchal fold again as they had some concerns. Want me to come back in 30 mins (12:45) - I've thrown up I am so anxious. Not sure what I need but if you could help me pass the next 30-45 mins a little quicker I would be hugely appreciative of that.

Thanks everyone. Everything else looked perfectly healthy, just gutted it'll be two weeks or so until we know by which point I'll be 22 weeks. Feels so late to be finding out about abnormalities as I can feel every last movement. I'm so worried I wish I could sleep for a week. Work is going to be really hard...

Oh op sorry I'm late to the thread, I've read it all now and totally understand why you're worrying, after all it's the motherly instinct kicking in.

When I was pregnant with ds, my 20 week scan was a nightmare, they told me that there was "something" wrong with his heart but they weren't sure what. I had to return the next day for another scan, they still weren't sure and I then had to wait another week for number 3 and all was well.

Nobody really gave me a proper explanation as to why the original concern but I was so pleased I didn't care. Looking back, I was a bag of nerves and should have asked more questions.

He's now a big strapping 15 year old Smile

Will be thinking of you, very best of luck Flowers

Oh OP, how stressful, thinking of you Thanks

I hope this helps a little - at our 20 week scan we were told baby had an echogenic focus (white spot) in his tummy. We were referred to a consultant and had regular scans throughout the pregnancy as no-one seemed to know what it was, they weren't hugely concerned but just weren't sure. Baby is now 7 months old and saw a few paediatricians in the first couple of days to check for abnormalities and a ultrasound booked for 8 weeks later, but seems to have been nothing, someone said possibly a cord cyst. Fingers crossed for you that this is nothing to worry about too, the fact the sonographer initially thought everything was okay suggests to me it must be quite a minor white spot or they would have seen it straight away.

Good luck x

@barleyreed she did notice it straight away. She told us everything looked fine and then told us about the echogenic bowel after waiting another half an hour. She shouldn't really have told us everything looked fine. The whole bowel was bright, which is worrying. Literally the whole thing (not just a spot) - I am terribly worried. DP doesn't seem to think we need to worry.

Gentle hugs and Flowers OP. Keep talking on here if you're awake at night instead of lying in bed feeling alone. It can be a lifesaver at times when you're struggling.

If you genuinely can't manage with stress/work for the time being see your GP and be honest about it. You have limited reserves of energy - try to use them as wisely as you're able.

I'm so sorry OP, will keep everything crossed that things are ok with your little one.

I also had an abnormal finding at my 20 week scan (lung issue) and had a similar experience. Was told everything looked fine but baby was in awkward position so could I go for a 20 minute walk to try and get him to move. When I got back there was someone else in the room so clearly they had seen a problem and everything wasn't 'fine'.

About the brightness of the bowel, remember baby is very small so the whole area will look bright at this stage. My baby's lung was huge and luminous - totally squashed other lung and displaced heart. I'm 36 weeks now and have been scanned very regularly along with other tests. At last scan the brightness was barely visible, it's still there but baby has grown around it.

Hope that makes sense.

BTW, the doctor was quite negative on day on scan but now they are a lot more positive about outcome. I think they prefer to give worse case scenario on the beginning just in case.

Take each day as it comes, hope the week goes quickly for you Flowers
