to ask you to help me feel better for 30 mins?

NC505 · 18/06/2018 12:17

At my 20 week scan. Sonographer said everything looks fine. Took a scan photo for another member of staff to look at. They want to get a photo of the nuchal fold again as they had some concerns. Want me to come back in 30 mins (12:45) - I've thrown up I am so anxious. Not sure what I need but if you could help me pass the next 30-45 mins a little quicker I would be hugely appreciative of that.

Oh bless you lovely, I'm sure she's just messed it up or something and you'll be absolutely fine.

I also LOVE the imaginary zoo idea, definitely using that next time I fly to take my mind off the hideous take off!

Ratbagratty · 18/06/2018 12:32

Write a list! We can help if you'd like.

AgentHannahWells · 18/06/2018 12:33

Hey OP keep chatting, sounds like your sonographer might be new or something? Here's my news of the day- virgin red app is giving away pizza.

NC505 · 18/06/2018 12:33

I'm just sat outside shaking my knees. I feel like I can't move I'm so nervous. I've had miscarriages before and never had a baby, and can't bear the thought of this one not being ok. I'm so scared

Sending you a hand hold. Could you get some fresh air for a few minutes? Bench outside?
I do a thing when I’m nervous - people watch eg

Oh they’re nice shoes
Why did she put that too with that skirt?
I wonder how old she is
Etc

Nosey and not that polite but in my head!!

GreenthoughtInAGreenShade · 18/06/2018 12:33

I used to distract myself at stressful scans by coming up with the worst possible baby names and suggesting them to DP with a straight face to see if i could make his head explode.
Humphry? Gertude? Caractacus? Tracey-Honoria? Dwayne? Nebuchadnezzer? The possibilities are endless...Smile
(Fingers crossed for you OP)

AgentHannahWells · 18/06/2018 12:34

Is your partner with you?

We are all willing you on.

tealandteal · 18/06/2018 12:35

We had to go for a walk around and go back at our 20 week scan to move the baby around. We saw a different sonographer. I always try to plan my dream holiday when I need a distraction. Money is no object, where would you go OP?

NC505 · 18/06/2018 12:36

I already had to walk around once. This'll be our third scan today! I'm just worried because she said the scan was done and we could go home, then she got someone in to have a look and said they need to check the nuchal fold. I'm thinking the worst.

TheLocalYokel · 18/06/2018 12:37

NC maybe everything they could see looks fine, but they couldn't get a clear view of nuchal fold so are hoping 30 minutes is time enough for baby to shift position.

I love Springwatch too - all hidden cameras capturing nature as it happens across the UK. Eggs hatching, chicks fledging, all that good stuff. I'm excited that autumn watch is going to be in New England this year! Bears and moose and chipmunks getting ready for winter! Yay!

IlikemyTeahot · 18/06/2018 12:37

Hi NC505
They told you everything was fine beforehand so thats great it means you have a healthy baby. They may just want a second opinion on the nuchal fold because sometimes its hard to see which is perfectly normal.
At 20 weeks it's likely that you've a chubby baby I know that these tests can be used to Indictate the possibilty of having a baby with downs but we're talking 1 in thousands odds. In most cases these babies are born fine. I've known a few mum's who have had this highlighted and nothing came of it they gave birth to big healthy babies with no issues whatsoever.

Some babies are just a bit larger so will hold more chub at the back of the neck love em...the ones that look like lil Buddha's!

Remember you have a healthy baby...thats whats important. You will soon meet and fall in love with this child and take care of them no matter what, everything will be ok xx

glitterbiscuits · 18/06/2018 12:38

I was told to during a can of something fizzy and go back in an hour. It was years ago though so I cant remember why.
Ive had miscarriages too, so I know what it's like to live on your nerves with pregnancy.

What do you think you will have for dinner tonight OP?

AgentHannahWells · 18/06/2018 12:38

At one of my scans they couldn't check what they needed to and we had to drive to another hospital 30 mins away with a better scanner. That was fun, not. But the baby is now at school and I am here talking to you. Just think OP 11 years from now you can pass the favour on to another worried mum ok Flowers

mrscloppity · 18/06/2018 12:39

Deep breaths, NC!
I've just dropped cat food all over my floor and then banged my head on the cupboard door 🙄 what a tit!

MaiaRindell · 18/06/2018 12:40

I had to do this. It was just because they needed a clearer image. In the end I had to have an internal scan.

AlmostAlwyn · 18/06/2018 12:46

Fingers crossed for you! Flowers Perhaps just a technical point, or maybe the ultrasonographer isn't that experienced...

Let's have a pub quiz! Name one of the ailments in the original Operation board game... Grin

slylyeatingbiscuits · 18/06/2018 12:48

Thanks for you OP! I hope everything is ok.

My DD is 7 weeks old, does not seem two minutes ago I was at my 20 week scan. We didn't find out either, I was so convinced I was having a boy, I was practically smug! Didn't know what to do with myself when she popped out Grin

Do you have much longer to wait?

AgentHannahWells · 18/06/2018 12:49

Hope you are in now op and getting a reassuring explanation.

Tangled59 · 18/06/2018 12:49

Sing your favourite songs in your head but replacing the lyrics with synonyms!
Example: my favourite song is "Beyond azure irises".

Orchidflower1 · 18/06/2018 12:51

Thinking of you op- hope you’ve gone in by now x

Knitjob · 18/06/2018 12:52

Good luck op. Hopefully they just wanted baby to move around a bit and get into a different position.

Hope your wait is over by now

MadisonAvenue · 18/06/2018 13:00

Hope you're in there and have had a reassuring explanation now.

Ratbagratty · 18/06/2018 13:03

Hope everything is ok

Thundersky · 18/06/2018 13:08
