AIBU to ask if you sometimes wonder if God thinks humans are a bunch of fools

Because of the idiotic things we do. Do you know they hymn Dear Lord and father of of mankind?

Okay, somewhereovertherain, as an atheist you probably don‘t. For an atheist the question why are we so foolish is also easily answered with: cause evolution made us that way, isn‘t it?

Well it's all nonsense.

But if it wasn't the issue is this. God may have the power to help and/or cares to. The problem of evil is that God either cares and can't change things or can change things and doesn't care to.

Not a good and powerful God in either case. Maybe Norse/Greco-Roman God...

Takeaway So happy, somebody understands. Cannot really explain it in words. I am not overly religious but I am fear God sometimes shakes his head and despairs over humanity.

I heard a lecture once which posed the theory that God (if he exists at all) is a malevolent God, rather than the benevolent one we're lied to believe in.
'Twas very interesting.

God created us in his image though. So either he thinks its going fine. Or he has made a whole bunch of errors which then doesn't really tie in with being a God.

I think that despite all it's flaws, humanity is an absolute diamond of a speciman when it comes to the world and Nature in general.

Every creature I see is either prey or predator. Nature is cruel, merciless, bloodthirsty, and wantonly wasteful (particularly of life).

I expect nothing less than for humanity to reflect all of this. It's a miracle to me that there are some human beings who wish to rise above all of it, who want to think of something other than themselves and their pleasure/survival. They may be a minority, but I think it's incredible (truly) that they exist at all.

The universe, and this world are very dark places. Amongst humanity, there are at least a few beacons of light. I have great hope for us.

That is an interesting think to say and think about, Patricia. Never looked at it this way, but I do not think all animals are mean and selfish. Many dogs for example would die for their human families.

Confused the lecturer spoke about Wars and famine and earthquakes etc being sent by God and how we struggle against his malevolence, rather than how he helps us overcome accidental/unplanned evils.

I don't believe in God, so didn't find it scary. It was interesting to hear a theory opposite to the usual one preached that God is on our side.

Confused I don't think all creatures are mean and selfish either. But they do priortise their pleasure and survival (or family/offspring's survival) above else.

When it comes to dogs (I agree with you), I find it interesting that:
a) it is primarily their "family" (human) they are willing to die for and
b) these are the dogs that have been socialised by humans (ie. our 'good' parts have rubbed off on them)
