Influencers try to sneakily hide #ad behind the timestamp on their video thumbnail or put it in white font so it blends in...they will try anything to avoide disclosing.

I have complained to the ASA and half the replies they said they had spoken to the influencer/ PR agency to explain the new advertising rules regarding vloggers and told them what to do for the next #ad :) The ASA do give them a kick up the ass when needed.

Someone’s on holiday again at the moment, and I noticed the likes on their holiday posts were spectacularly low. Just over 1% so what do these companies get out of gifting a holiday? when it’s clear so many followers are completely fed up of them being given for free to people who can clearly afford to pay for them themselves. Would you book a holiday with a company that’s gifting trips to already wealthy instagrammers? Because I know I wouldn’t.

ScipioAfricanus · 30/06/2018 00:34

If it’s who I think it is, at least she is honest am doing clear about her holiday being an advert.

However, I wonder if other people are a bit sick of seeing the same wealthy people off on holiday again and that explains the low engagement? I avoid using companies which gift things to influencers when I can, as I don’t like the strategy. It does feel like it’s in poor taste. However I couldn’t afford a holiday like that anyway so the company probably isn’t losing sleep over my feelings!

A vivid and interesting discussion of mental illness and mental health which raises some of the issues discussed on these threads about how instagrammers have jumped onto the mainstreaming of mental health conversations bandwagon and how it can be unhelpful for those with mental illnesses...

Trigger warning, it talks about mental illness and suicide attempts.

'It's nothing like a broken leg': why I'm done with the mental health conversation

www.theguardian.com/society/2018/jun/30/nothing-like-broken-leg-mental-health-conversation

ChirpieBirdie · 30/06/2018 14:14

That is a brilliant article. Thanks for the link.

allusedup · 30/06/2018 14:31

Yes - so, so good, regardless of any relevance here.

PeppaP · 02/07/2018 13:45

Some good stories from thisgirlisenough and theorganised_mum today about influencer culture.

ChirpieBirdie · 02/07/2018 14:54

You mean women supporting women isn't always a real thing on Instagram, who would have thunk it?

ARumDo · 02/07/2018 18:57

It certainly isn't a real thing - just a sales device and a way to close down the conversation!

Powergower · 02/07/2018 19:45

I've just seen the this girl is enough stories. Finally someone addressing the bullying on Insta. However, Im shocked she mentioned NB as being one of the big accounts who goes against the bullying grain!!

Insta is awful at the moment. Dark, seedy, cliquey and just awful.

ARumDo · 02/07/2018 21:32

And the bullying is so, so real. "If you're not in my gang, you're fair game." There is no attempt to create a dialogue, just a fan club of mediocrity and money-spinning with naff, trite hashtags. Some of these influencers need to hang their heads in shame........... money -grabbing disguised as anything but the money-grabbing enterprise it is.

ChirpieBirdie · 02/07/2018 21:46

It is interesting to see the penny drop that Insta is really all about business/flogging stuff and very little to do with “women supporting women”. We called it first and got hammered for saying so.

Babbas · 02/07/2018 22:21

And interesting that it's the former fan girls lower down in the pyramid who are telling the horror stories. Tales of sending loads of free stuff to big Insta mums in the hope of a shout out, or a like back. We called it out from the start, how the ones with low numbers fan girl the big accounts in the hope of securing followers and income. It's starting to unravel. But I doubt anything will happen. As long as they keep blocking the negative comments and criticism they will never fully be exposed.

Also interesting that lots of stories today mention how badly they were treated at 'events'. When we discussed this a few threads ago accounts like wee slice, sjv etc went mental. Seems like it's very common though to treat attendees like shit.

ChirpieBirdie · 02/07/2018 23:04

Cookie Kibbles made me properly laugh too. I wish they’d name names though 😈

EeebyMum · 03/07/2018 08:31

Who are they on about?
Remember a few threads back when ppl where saying how awful they’d been treated at Weeslices event and all the instamums when ape-shit? Including that gobby one who tried to dox one of MN users and Caroline Hirons who just stuck her nose in and had a bitch for the sake of it? I wonder if there will be the same backlash now it’s coming from ‘their own’ doubt it

Fluffyrainbows · 03/07/2018 09:20

The way they all pretend to be just like every follower when actually every follower and like is actually just a stepping stone to a more lucrative deal or better free holiday is just grating. The general arrogance and entitlement is unattractive too.
Wee slice, Natasha Bailie and Caroline Hirons just come across as such unpleasant women.
I used to really like following lots of accounts but have unfollowed most now.
I'm also sick of the Strong Women brigade. Starting to find it all quite tedious and sexist. I have sons as well as daughters and am all for empowering young people but this message is odd.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 03/07/2018 09:56

This is very interesting - I admire these instagrammers for calling this out. Bit Hmm at the inclusion of Natasha Baillie however.

EeebyMum · 03/07/2018 11:24

Natasha Braille just likes a campaign, let’s see if this ones more successful then the ‘MN are all bullies and must do better’ one.

EeebyMum · 03/07/2018 11:25

*Bailie

Moonkissedlegs · 03/07/2018 11:35

Hang on, so Natasha Bailie is now 'campaigning' about the stuff that MNers were calling out on here a while back: stuff that she was calling MN a 'cesspit of hatred' or whatever for?

What a fucking cheek! Honestly, how does she have the nerve! What happened to 'just be kind' eh Natasha?

EeebyMum · 03/07/2018 12:10

QueenBee influencers are assholes to the small-fry wannabes shocker

EeebyMum · 03/07/2018 12:12

The We Are All Equal hashtag is bollocks as different tiers of influencers are absolutely not equal and will be treated as so

Bakingnovice · 03/07/2018 19:18

And still no word on how they feel about exploiting their children. I unfollow anyone who features their children gratuitously. It's just so cheap and grossly unfair on the kids having to trek from event to event abbr open box after box. I used to love fatfunnyone but all she's done since having her baby is schlep the kid from one free event to another. And don't get me started on her mental health events.

Apart from MP none of them have addressed the exploitation of children.

Insta is such a bandwagon these days. You can see them all thinking 'oh new bandwagon, make some room cos I'm coming on it..... '

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 03/07/2018 21:36

I've unfollowed so many of them this has all passed me by!

Keepitw0nky · 04/07/2018 11:54

Really interesting stories coming out, funny though that it’s being listened to and taken seriously now. I thought ‘hate to say I told you so’ - vilified MNers
