My mum and dad are away and I have this rash on my tummy after having a copper coil fitted about 5/6 hours ago.
I'm really really worried I don't know what the hell it is.
I've tried to google but can't find anything!!!

I have tummy ache like really really bad period pains and bleeding, and the pains much much worse on the right side. It really hurt when she put it in too. The pains not unbearable I'd say like a 4 or 5 out of 10 and I think I have quite a good pain threshold.

It's not itchy or bumpy!

I feel ridiculous calling 111, does anyone know what it could be? Is it nothing? What's sepsis? Does that give you a rash? Because that's on my leaflet, I don't think I have a high temp. Omg am I ok😭😭😭😭
My mum usually just knows this stuff!

Hopefully it is nothing but always good to get checked

Rebecca36 · 15/06/2018 00:19

I hope you have sought medical attention by now. You could be allergic to copper.

Let us know how you get on please.

nottinghillgrey · 15/06/2018 00:25

Hope you are ok OP. It does look like a heat rash from the hot water bottle.

StaplesCorner · 15/06/2018 00:38

If you google it says you can get a rash from copper allergy after having a coil fitted and you should notify your healthcare provider. Personally I'd be jumping up and down on my healthcare provider shouting FFS FFS WHAT IS IT! so I think you are remarkably restrained OP. Get it looked it.

Ring 111 and talk to someone medical, do not wait. I have no idea if it is OK but I would want to talk to a medical professional.

Hope you are OK.

I know it’s been said a bunch of times already but that’s exactly what my tummy looks like when I have a hot water bottle on it for too long. That was what I instantly thought when I saw your pic.

Call 111 just to be safe. But as an endometriosis suffer, I get that kind of heat rash all the time from my hot water bottle (I try to minimize it but sometimes the pain is so bad I need to hold it tight there for a while, though I do have a furry cover on it). I get it on my tummy, back, thighs depending where I use the bottle. If it turns out to be that, it will fade gradually. But yes definitely check it isn't a reaction or anything. Try not to worry too much.

*Endo sufferer!

Sorry I fell asleep! I'm fine!
I did call 111 but waited for someone to answer for over 15 minutes! I figured if they're that busy then there's probably more important things to be dealing with so left it.

Took ibuprofen, fell asleep and this morning it was gone. I think it was probably just the hot water bottle!

I'm in work now all paracetamol'ed up but still in lots of pain from it being put in! I have 23 three and four year olds to contend with today so I think I better woman up and get on with it!

Thanks everyone its much appreciated! X

Can you call the place where you had the coil inserted? I had a copper coil inserted yesterday and they told me to call them or my GP if it fell out or I had severe abdominal pain.

ICantCopeAnymore · 15/06/2018 11:39

That's a hot water bottle rash.
