Many many years ago when I was about 18 or 19 I worked for Tax Credits, and it was a complete shambles then, people being over paid, underpaid, paid random amounts and payments stopping for no reason.
Now, over 15 years later I’m in the position of having to claim Tax Credits myself for childcare costs and it seems nothing has changed, why can they not tell you what you’re entitled to before you put in a claim so you can decide between Tax Credits, Tax Free Childcare and Childcare Vouchers? (The calculator always seems to be wrong) Why are the payments so different, I’m getting £100 per month for 3 months then £65 for 1 month then £229 for 1 month then £200 from then on but I’m salaried and my pay is the same every month so how do they expect me to budget properly?
There has got to be a better way, it’s not like no one’s ever told them it’s not working, I know people who don’t claim Tax Credits even though they’d be entitled to them because they’re worried about being overpaid and having to repay.
