.....To think that Donald Trump has pulled off a blinder with the Korean Treaty.

i know he gets a lot of stick and sometimes I think he is ridiculous ( “build a wall”) but he has done something here which is rather amazing. He has signed a treaty with the leader of famously aggressive North Korea for them to stop their nuclear programme which ultimately protects the world. He has achieved what 11 previous Presidents ( and 13 British Prime Ministers) could not. Does he deserve this achievement to be recognised as a marvellous thing?

I think it's a result after all the name calling and threats from both sides until fairly recently!

My theory is that Kim has been told by the Chinese that he needs to sort his country out, which is why we are seeing such a transformation in his approach to both South Korea & the US.

THIS!

The ground work and pre- talks with Chine were where the game was at. XiPing is doing a great job of being the US to heel.

I'm struggling to accept that this vulgar kakistocracy, mandated indefinite-term separation of children from their parents, ongoing destruction of half-decent health insurance safety net and widespread repeal of environmental protection laws are the price we should expect to pay to get peace with NK.

Really?! Was this the only path?

Oh now, I dont think anyone has left this week.

It's only Tuesday.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 12/06/2018 21:32

And just one minor heart attack.

2blueshoes · 12/06/2018 21:36

Fingers crossed op.

YABU. Trump has, as expected, achieved very little. He has made a huge concession in attending the meeting in the first place. Kim Jong Un has simply regurgitated the same commitment that has been made previously but without any of the detail. Certain elements that Trump claims have been agreed were not included in the written agreement (because "there wasn't time") and Trump is now lavishing praise on KJU. Its absurd, quite frankly. Of course, Trump is all smoke and mirrors and will be telling us all what a stupendous outcome he achieved, after zero preparation.

Don't get me started on the propaganda video the WH released to mark the meeting. Appalling.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 12/06/2018 21:41

Hey that was last week!

Lweji · 12/06/2018 21:43

Yes. Last Friday.
Although less than a week ago.
I'm taking bets for the next one.

BonnieF · 12/06/2018 22:39

MissSusan

The BBC are now reporting that Kim is flying direct to Beijing from Singapore.

It looks very much like XI Jinping is pulling his strings.

SmileEachDay · 12/06/2018 22:57

What has he achieved, OP?

No time frame to decommission
No actual agreement to decommission
No agreement for independent scrutiny of decommissioning

It’s like telling your teenager to think about giving up snorting coke. But there’ll be no sanctions if they don’t. And there’s no date by which they need to start giving up. And no one will check if they’ve got a stash in their room.

It’s a fucking ridiculous parade which suits the current publicity purposes of both sides.
