.....To think that Donald Trump has pulled off a blinder with the Korean Treaty.

i know he gets a lot of stick and sometimes I think he is ridiculous ( “build a wall”) but he has done something here which is rather amazing. He has signed a treaty with the leader of famously aggressive North Korea for them to stop their nuclear programme which ultimately protects the world. He has achieved what 11 previous Presidents ( and 13 British Prime Ministers) could not. Does he deserve this achievement to be recognised as a marvellous thing?

Do you think the Chinese are better off now or under chairman mao? Wanting money, opening up the country... Talking.. Is how to bring regime change.

Ohsuchaperfectday · 12/06/2018 18:53

Pyongyang shuffle 😂😂 under trump Korea Tower 😂😂

Kursk · 12/06/2018 18:56

I agree he has achieved something. I don’t like him, but so far he has been a successful President.

Be prepared OP to be told you are being unreasonable for saying anything positive about him.

borntobequiet · 12/06/2018 18:56

It’s not a treaty.
I had an American friend who thought the expression in the OP meant some sort of exceptional masturbatory activity, in which case it’s appropriate.

annandale · 12/06/2018 18:58

That dictator has got exactly what he wanted - increased credibility with absolutely no apparent timescale or commitment to what denuclearisation actually means.

Childrenofthesun · 12/06/2018 19:00

Hmm, the analyses I’ve read from North Korea experts seem to suggest that Trump has given lots, achieved nothing concrete in return and has flattered a dictator and appalling human-rights abuser.

This. I heard someone on the radio saying it's a watered-down version of the 1993 agreement that the North Koreans never upheld. We'll have to see what happens. From what else I've read, Chinese sanctions have been the most effective tool so far.
Still, I suppose it's an achievement that those two crazies were alone together in a room and didn't decide to launch nuclear missiles at the rest of the world.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 12/06/2018 19:05

Remind me again why he is flipping the bird to the rear if the G7 and Iran and cozying up to Korea and Israel?

user8627481 · 12/06/2018 19:08

I do not trust the trump at all!! .. what are his motives for this? Glory perhaps. Perhaps a gold plated nobel peace prize. Not humanitarian concerns or the safety of his (or another) country I suspect

I also don't trust Kim!

There is no way that he would give up his nuclear armour this easily - what's he up to?

...watching with interest ... and fear! .. something scary is afoot

AsAProfessionalFekko · 12/06/2018 19:12

Trump - money and/or ego
Kim - didn't his sites get swept away in an earthquake anyway?

Either way - my money is in Kim. He has been brought up to 'dictate' and is not above ordering close staff and actual family members to be... (Well you know the rest).

yorkshireyummymummy · 12/06/2018 19:15

The 1993 treaty was with a different leader of NK.
Personally I think that KJU doesn’t really like his country.
I think he likes Western things and wants to experience them. Maybe, just maybe he is very different from his father and grandfather. He has been tough and he has - according to newspaper reports which of course you cannot trust 100% - got rid of the hardline older generals from his father’s regime.
I think it’s going to be worth watching how this will play out and I hope it’s going to be good for the people of NK and SK.

crayoladreamz · 12/06/2018 19:18

Yep agree OP.

If this were anyone else held get the peace prize. People are so full of hate they’re unable to give credit where it’s due.

MissionItsPossible · 12/06/2018 19:27

All I know is I am watching Channel 4 news and in the Trump/Kim segment there was like a movie trailer of them. I YouTubed the full version and honestly I am a bit baffled lol. I thought it was a spoof but it’s not.

EggysMom · 12/06/2018 19:30

For both Kim and Trump, it's been a masterpiece of scam and soundbites. Neither side has achieved anything concrete, but somehow they both come out of this looking as though they are the world's best peacemakers. Trump desperately wanted to achieve something during his presidency. Kim desperately wants to be taken seriously as a world leader. Kudos to the pair of them, they've fooled the world.

BlackForestCake · 12/06/2018 19:30

Why would NK ever get rid of its nuclear weapons?

As we have just seen, if you are a small country classed as an enemy, but have nuclear weapons, the President of the US will treat you with respect.

Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq on the other hand didn't have any, and the US bombed them back to the stone age.

DuchessofSuccess · 12/06/2018 19:31

I thought there was a thread about this which was deleted.

ALittleAubergine · 12/06/2018 19:31

I'm interested to see what north Korea does next, it's almost like kju has some weird plan and dt is a means to an end.

MissSusanSays · 12/06/2018 19:32

Tell me again what he negotiated successfully. Because it does look like Kim got what he wanted and the US got nothing.

Lweji · 12/06/2018 19:32

Personally I think that KJU doesn’t really like his country.

But... He told Donald he does.

Justanothernameonthepage · 12/06/2018 19:33

Well North Korea got everything they wanted in exchange for a vaguely worded agreement that could be read to ban US nuclear carrying warships from the region. They also managed to get Trump to move further aways from established allies.
Although at least they finally managed to get him to stand up in front of the press instead of him sulking behind his press team/staged appearances.
Oh and he gets to release that coin.

ReservoirDogs · 12/06/2018 19:40

Haha - a meaningless photo op was all that has been achieved.

There is good reason that other presidents haven't met with NK because they wanted concessions first. DT has met with KJU which is what KJU wanted without gettibg anythibg in exchange other than a meaninglessness and unenforceable document!

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 12/06/2018 19:42

Don’t understand what he’s achieved tbh. Kim Jung agreed to all of this with the South Koreans in April/ May?

Lweji · 12/06/2018 19:45

Also he’s scuppered the Iran deal so I lease explain the difference to me because I’m hard pressed to understand the difference ?

The difference is called Obama.

imnotspartacus · 12/06/2018 19:47

If Obama had made this "deal" can you imagine what DT would say.

MissSusanSays · 12/06/2018 19:47

They also managed to get Trump to move further aways from established allies.

This is what scares me and probably the entire population of South Korea and Japan right now.
