I never did go back to work, instead explored other ways of earning- from home.

It depends on your skillset. There are some jobs which pay better than others and don't actually demand too much in the way of time and effort, but they are hard to come by and you have to be either very, very good at what you do or very lucky.

It's also worth taking a look at your current situation and seeing what you could cut back on to make the money you earn go further. Of course, this will depend on whether or not you have DC or other family members to support - or consider. I have a friend who considers herself a 'digital nomad' - the work she does can be done anywhere with WiFi and a power point so she has sold, given away or found storage for most of her possessions and moves between variosu AirB&Bs and backpacker hostels rather than having a 'home' as such. She says it's cheaper than renting and less stressful than having flatmates who annoy her. But then she is young, single and childfree and doesn't have to worry about anyone else.

You could work as a travel guide. A friend does this and escorts groups around Europe. It is poorly paid, but she gets to see a lot of different places.

DD has said the only way she thinks she'll manage to sustain the lifestyle she wants is to be a master criminal. Would you like to team up with her? She still has a few years school left, but could probably do evenings, if she can tear herself off her phone long enough.

Personally, I am not sure that many very highly paid jobs have regular cool experiences. You pay for those out of your high income.

My sister does agency/freelance graphic design for 6 months in the uk, saves all her money, then travels for 6 months. She is only 23 though with no commitments and no outgoings (she stays with our parents)

Get 10 years of experience in a sought after skillset and pimp yourself out as a contractor at a £800+ day rate

My 6 month freelance contract pays more than annual salary in many perm roles, so I'm going to take a few months off after it finishes

But you have to earn your stripes first and get the experience to be really good at what you do, before you can charge a whacking day rate!
