For the last couple of weeks every morning between half 6 and 7 there is a creaky moaning noise that wakes me up. Sounds like someone blowing a conch shell. It's really loud. I dont think its the pipes as the heating isnt on and its only recently started. Any ideas?

Oh gosh I have no idea, when I stayed at a friend's she had the exact same noise in the spare room where I stayed... It was horrendous, I hated it, never worked out what it was though

Neighbours new alarm clock setting?

OuchLegoHurts · 12/06/2018 09:40

Are you in the countryside? Sounds just like a donkey... They're super loud at this time of year in the early mornings

liz70 · 12/06/2018 09:41

Ghoosties?

Pickleypickles · 12/06/2018 09:43

I live on a housing estate so probably not a donkey. Although does sound kind of like one 🤔

Is it inside or out?
One off sound or does it repeat?
Have you heard it at any other time?

Gizlotsmum · 12/06/2018 09:45

Is your hot water on a timer or combi boiler? Do you have the window open?

UterusUterusGhali · 12/06/2018 09:45

Next door's pipes?

I hear the same at my BFs

Ifailed · 12/06/2018 09:45

maybe it is someone blowing a conch shell?

Seeline · 12/06/2018 09:46

Whatever it is, I'd swap it for the dawn chorus of jackdaws that is currently waking me up at 4.30 every morning!!

Mrsramsayscat · 12/06/2018 09:48

Somebody next door has air in their pipes or a faulty tap. We have a bathroom tap which makes a dreadful noise unless you turn it on fully. But we don't have a near neighbour.

Do you sleep in the loft or under a wooden flat roof extension?

Heat can make these newer cavity roofs creak very badly. If it's that, Winter is worse.

SnugglySnerd · 12/06/2018 09:51

We had a similar early-morning noise and it turned out to be a heron sitting on a neighbour's roof.

Pickleypickles · 12/06/2018 09:57

Happens a three or four times and lasts about 2 or 3 seconds each time, i cant work out if its outside or inside. If it is pipes what do i do??

Our pipes occasionally sound just like a conch shell blower. Is someone flushing the loo?

QuinionsRainbow · 12/06/2018 10:05

If your water heating is on timer, try altering the switch-on time by an hour and see if the time for the noise changes by an hour too.

Chwaraeteg · 12/06/2018 10:05

Water pipes. It's the same at my parents house.

UpstartCrow · 12/06/2018 10:06

Can you record it and upload it to Soundcloud?
