My gooseberries are very happy. They're out there with their friends The Tayberries and the neighbouring Mr Fig, Jonny Redcurrant, Rita Raspberry and the Strawberry Collective are close by. Don't pity them, they're destined for crumble great things.

@SparkwoodAnd21

Yes, yes it does.

There’s an annual gooseberry pie fair near me. An enormous gooseberry pie is constructed in a nearby town and then arrives in the village on a steam train. It is then blessed by the vicar before it’s cut up and sold with lots of clotted cream because it’s so fucking bitter. This is all true btw.

There’s nothong to worry about at all.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/06/2018 20:24

I LOVE gooseberry fool, gooseberry tart, gooseberry crumble, and gooseberry sauce with goose. It is a lovely fruit.

mikado1 · 10/06/2018 20:26

I'm worried that I'm reading 'gooz-berry', while others are reading 'guz-berry'.

MalcolmsBrokenWalrusMoneybox · 10/06/2018 20:26

We have gooseberries growing in the garden (on purpose). I find them unpleasant but dd is a surprisingly big fan.

Fool Grin

MrsJacksonBrodieTheSecond · 10/06/2018 20:27

Here’s the navy transporting the pie from the train to the village pub. I missed out that stage, sorry.

I saw a gooseberry bush for sale in Asda the other day so someone must like them enough for them to be worth selling.

Racecardriver · 10/06/2018 20:28

I really like them Blush

brizzledrizzle · 10/06/2018 20:30

I don't worry about them as much as I worry about wallflowers.

pandorawithtreaclecolouredhair · 10/06/2018 20:30

Well, you've made us all want some now, OP.
Are you from the Gooseberry Marketing Board?

MixedHerbs · 10/06/2018 20:30

But they're fine! Really, I saw a programme about them on to the other day. Admittedly, it was a very short programme but they were all running about and laughing, swinging from the bushes, jumping up and down over the hills and dales. Generally having the time of their lives.

No, wait, that was blackcurrants and it was a Ribena ad.

As you were.

I worry about gooseberries too.

TheSassyAssassin · 10/06/2018 20:31

No YANBU .... though if I can't get any to turn into jam and pies this summer other berries will be sacrificed...viciously! Angry

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 10/06/2018 20:32

Ooooh I love gooseberries, when I was a youngster I sat in the garden of a neighbour & ate most of his off the Bush-not a euphemism.

Hassled · 10/06/2018 20:32

Gooseberries are much loved by me but by no one else I know. They are a pretty niche fruit. You've made me think that maybe I should buy a gooseberry bush.

I made the funniest joke in the history of the world ever when I was about 6 and my mother made Gooseberry Fool. I said "The geese laid berries and it made a fool out of them" and then laughed for about 10 hours. It's a wonder I didn't end up in comedy.

Oddcat · 10/06/2018 20:33

Gooseberries remind me of my Nan

ShowOfHands · 10/06/2018 20:33

MixedHerbs, sure it wasn't the Poddington Peas?

margaritasbythesea · 10/06/2018 20:35

Well, your idea that there are ´niche fruit´made me snarkle, so perhaps you should´ve Hassled.

Oddcat · 10/06/2018 20:37

Buggered Grin her chin was a bit prickly!

TheSpottedZebra · 10/06/2018 20:37

Any allotment site will be full of the buggers - they're super easy to grow.

Shumpalumpa · 10/06/2018 20:37

What is a 'lady welcome'? Sounds kinky.
