I’m trying to decide whether to change my conveyancing solicitors. I went with a small regional firm.

Instructed them early last week on the sale of my house, paperwork sent out, all fine. Then I instructed on a purchase middle of the week and the paperwork came today.

They’ve got wrong - my surname (by one letter), the spelling of the road I live on, the number of the house I’m buying and the spelling of the road that is on too.

It’s a slight ball ache and delay to go to someone else and start again but that’s really shite isn’t it? How the hell can I trust them to get the legal work right?

My conveyancing solicitor was the same. The pre-contract enquiries listed a property we weren't buying. We ended up staying with them but I kept on their tails. I was basically a total pain in the arse but I didn't trust them. I'm a solicitor myself and was surprised by their service BUT they did do what they were paid to do with some forceful encouragement. Wouldn't use them again.

YANBU to try and change but I warn you that you might not get better! IME small conveyancing firms are not attracting the best and brightest talent by any stretch, and they usually operate on the basis of high volume and low costs. But if you can get a recommendation for a decent firm I would totally understand why you would want to switch.

My dilemma is exactly that really user, what if I move and get the same again. I’m also a solicitor and honestly if that came out of my office I would be horrified but asking around it seems a bit par for the course. Urgh so annoyed!
