Dc is coming up 12 months now, and still no sign of my periods returning. I don't think it took this long with my other dc.

When did you all get your periods back of you were still breastfeeding?

16m. Continued bedtime feeding until 2y. Friend doing the same got hers back after 6 weeks.

LupinsNotBluebells · 08/06/2018 11:15

Stopped feeding at 12 months, came back at 16 months, but I have a relatively low BMI (

Utini · 08/06/2018 11:17

14 months. DD was ill and massively reduced her milk intake for a couple of days. For a couple of nights she had nothing overnight, rather than multiple feeds as was normal for her. Must have been enough to trigger ovulation, as my period came back a couple of weeks or so later.

justanotheruser18 · 08/06/2018 11:20

I'm nearly 10 months into bf and no period yet

WittyJack · 08/06/2018 11:22

8 months and I was still bf then. I think it waited until I was on holiday Hmm

ilovejammiedogers · 08/06/2018 11:24

11 months and I'm still bf

NotAnotherUserName5 · 08/06/2018 11:28

Reassuring to see it varies.

She does still have quite a number of feeds, and is yet to sleep through. Must be a factor.

WittyJack-typical timing! How annoying.

I suspect mine will do the same, and appear at a rubbish time too.

about 6 months. baby is 13 months still bf. and we co sleep so he feeds all night long and my bloody periods still came back Angry

butlerswharf · 08/06/2018 11:31

After 28 days AngryAngryAngry

TatterdemalionAspie · 08/06/2018 11:40

6 fecking weeks! Angry I'd only just stopped bleeding after the birth, and thought it was a recurrence of the uterine infection. Nope - ebf was no match for my regular as clockwork heavy periods. Hmm

Hullabaloo31 · 08/06/2018 11:43

BOth of mine were hen the night feeds dropped a bit, about 10 and 11 months with forst and second child resp.

TatterdemalionAspie · 08/06/2018 11:44

I co-slept and had a huge (not born huge, but went for 50th to 98th centile quite quickly), very hungry baby, too. Still straight back into previous cycle.

Sunbeam18 · 08/06/2018 11:45

7 weeks after giving birth, despite exclusive breastfeeding!

AhoyDelBoy · 08/06/2018 11:45

I'd like to ask a question - hopefully someone will answer if they can as I'm often ignored on these boards. After 6 months EBF can no longer be used as a form of contraception, even if your period hasn't returned? Is this correct? I have an 8mo BF DD (with solids as well but no formula) but am on the minipill so haven't had a period. If I stopped the pill but my periods didn't return I could still conceive is that correct? TIA Smile

HappyLollipop · 08/06/2018 11:49

They returned 3 months after my DS was born and I was (and still am) EBF, I was so disappointed!

BlueSapp · 08/06/2018 11:50

Mine never stopped in the first place, I had periods the whole time i was breastfeeding.

WittyJack · 08/06/2018 11:51

Ahoy - absolutely you can still get pregnant. No period doesn't guarantee no ovulation, apparently!

Just ask my friend, whose kids are just 13 months apart 😬

NotAnotherUserName5 · 08/06/2018 11:51

AhoyDelBoy-it's not a perfectly reliable form of contraception, even prior to 6 months. A friend with a 14 month month age gap found out! Grin

OP posts:
WittyJack · 08/06/2018 11:52

Oh and there's no 6 months either. You can get pregnant whilst breastfeeding at any time! It might be less likely, but you only take the chance if you're willing to take the risk!

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 08/06/2018 11:59

10 months here, just as we started night-weaning. I'm actually pleased because we need IVF to conceive and we'd like to try for DC2 after the summer.

Gunpowder · 08/06/2018 12:00

I think the breastfeeding for the first six months as contraception is only reliable if you exclusively breastfeed on demand day and night, (not even bottles of expressed milk or early solids) all babies sucking needs are met at the breast, and your baby is always with you (so you don’t go out and leave them with any one else). So probably only is reliable if you are very much doing attachment parenting or have a high needs Velcro baby. It’s called the lactational ammenorhea method/LAM.
