To think she's wrong, not me

Bought a pair of jeans from Ebay, advertised as a size 24. They arrived today and they're a 24 inch waist which is no use to me. The ad never once says they're anything but a size 24. Seller is refusing to refund.

I would assume size 24 too.

Branleuse · 08/06/2018 10:30

@19Lottie82

I always check UK only, but more and more people are just buying stock from china now and selling it from UK address, so you just cant tell anymore.

Yeah I know i didnt have to accept the partial refund, but i dont know when i will get to the post office and ive so often not managed to return on time and its such a faff, that I just accepted it and will see if someone i know with a tiny teenager might like it.
I think they rely on this. Ive had people send me entirely different cheaper versions of items before and then offer a partial. I think it takes the piss. The whole point of online shopping is not so i can go and wait an hour in the post office to get my £7 back or whatever.

problembottom · 08/06/2018 10:34

I can see both sides of this.
I get that you thought they were a size 24 as you hadn't heard of the brand.
I do however think a lot of people would have known what a size 24 in these jeans was. It's standard sizing in places like Selfridges where these brands are sold. I buy Mother Denim jeans in a 28, which is a size 10. So I have some sympathy with the seller.

whifflesqueak · 08/06/2018 10:40

I wear a 24w.

I wouldn’t have bought jeans listed as size 24. I would assume they were uk dress size 24. Because that’s what it says. Size. 24.

When i’m hopelessly rummaging in Levi’s and ask for assistance, I tell them I am looking for a 24, or a 24 waist. I wouldn’t ask for a size 24. That’s a totally different thing.

I’m with you op.

3stonedown · 08/06/2018 11:23

Just reading the listing I would assume size 24 but as soon as I looked at the pics I would have known. I used to be a 20 and I would say even when the jeans are flat on the floor with nothing to compare them to you can tell they aren't anywhere near a size 24.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 08/06/2018 11:36

All my jeans are in waist (and leg) size by inches.

I didn't even know you could buy them in clothes sizes.

Bluntness100 · 08/06/2018 11:41

All my jeans are also in waist inches and not dress sizes.

I can see how the issue would occur. She is not wrong, because that is the size, and the label will also say 24. The issue is it's easily interpretable to be a size 24 which this brand doesn't do nor do they size in dress sizes.

Curious to know what eBay will say, it could go either way.

WeeDangerousSpike · 08/06/2018 11:53

If she had just entered 24 in the size field in the listing I would think that was entirely reasonable. But she has chosen to write 'size 24' in the description. She should have either written 24" or 24w. I don't think for a minute she has tried to mislead anyone, but a size 24 is not the same as 24". It's that simple.

Usernameunknown2 · 08/06/2018 13:54

Open it and paypal will refund. ebay clearly asks for the dress size. Seller should not have written size 24 if they arent that dress size regardless of brand. I buy by look or feel not brand as does the OP from the sounds of it.

The Seller's poor description means they are likely to lose.

Usernameunknown2 · 08/06/2018 13:56

Trouser size even. The seller should have put 24 inch waist and the same in the description. Size 24 is misleading but i get why shes done it.

MassDebate · 08/06/2018 14:08

I think YABU, but I always buy designer jeans from the US so would understand the sizing (fwiw I -size 8 in UK - usually buy size 27 so I appreciate it’s more obvious that it’s not a dress size). She showed the label clearly so I think it was your responsibility in this case to check the sizing for that brand tbh.

zeeboo · 08/06/2018 15:20

Another who has never heard of the brand and how bloody stupid having "all mankind" in the title when they only cater to "skinny to slim mankind" customers!

zeeboo · 08/06/2018 15:24

@Failingat40 "oversized jeans" wow. Just wow.

Bluntness100 · 08/06/2018 15:28

Size 24 is misleading but i get why shes done it

I'm not sure. She shows the label. They are clearly not size 24 jeans.

QuestionableMouse · 08/06/2018 20:30

I'm ignoring all of the rude size related comments. I'm slowly but surely losing weight but it's a struggle because I have some health issues. Anyone who wants to be rude over my weight can stick it.

Bluntness100 · 08/06/2018 20:37

To be fair i think i can see one maybe two mildly rude comments, so I think you've over reacted there.

I'm sorry I also think the pic of rhe actual jeans and rhe label inside should have made you very aware they are not a size twenty four, I'm unsure how you could have thought they were if I'm honest.

HellenaHandbasket · 08/06/2018 20:45

most people who are into fashion wouldn't even be aware this size can exist.

Really? Most people who are 'into fashion' are ignorant and a little dim? Who knew.

TroubledLichen · 08/06/2018 21:01

Confusion about jeans being sold in dress size versus waist size aside, this is really bizarre and I don’t understand how this happened unless you bought them without looking at any of the pictures. They are so obviously a very small size from the picture of the actual jeans unfolded AND there’s a picture of the label. I don’t know how the hell you could think they would be a size 24.

If eBay doesn’t side with you then just relist them. If you write the description properly and put 24 inches and size 6 you might even make a profit!

QuestionableMouse · 09/06/2018 11:39

I wasn't a 100% sure but I doubled checked the size in the listing and figured because they were branded jeans they were more in proportion. The listing never mentions inches but does say size 24 multiple times. I have dress trousers with the same sort of tag that are a plus size. I'd never have bought them if the word inches had been used anywhere at least once.

Last time I sold clothes on ebay, I laid them out with a tape measure so there was no confusion.

ScreamingValenta · 09/06/2018 11:46

It's very hard to gauge size from a photo. I've lost count of the number of skirts I've bought that I thought would be about knee-length, and turned out to hang to mid-calf so I've had to take them up. If it's a measurement that's critical to fit, I look for an actual measurement unless I'm familiar with the sizing of the brand.
