I was a Smiths fan. I was a Morrissey fan. I loved the music and the lyrics. Then he got a bit ‘embarrassing Uncle with questionable views but who you still feel an affection for’ in the 90’s. But now he’s just a racist twunt. See here AIBU to wonder who buys his records these days? Surely nearly all his original fan base will have had enough by now? Do any mumsnetters still listen to him?

He is an irrelevance, and has been for decades.

Given that polls indicate the majority of people have similar views it's amazing the fuss it has caused. I guess we're so used to celebrities parroting the political orthodoxy that it seems outrageous when one breaks ranks.

For those who think Morrissey’s racism is tongue in cheek (which I used to) have you actually come across Tommy Robinson’s outpourings? He is completely and utterly racist, a liar and a dangerous man. Lots of people listen to him, and his rhetoric incites racism and violence. Supporting him is condoning this. It’s not ironic, or funny- people are hurt and killed as a result of people listening to the likes of him eg the bloke that ran a van into a group of Muslims.
