DS starts school in Sept and I don't know how many is best to buy. The jumpers and poloshirts are embroidered so can't just get a plain one from the supermarket. The jumpers at £9 each and the polo shirts are £7 each.

I always get 2.
Word of wisdom... when you wash the jumpers, wash them on their own, at as low a temp as you can and with no fabric softener.
Fabric softener ruins them, creates a film coating which makes them shiny and puts them out of shape

Addy2 · 07/06/2018 10:31

A shirt a day if you don't do midweek laundry. Two jumpers means you have a spare, but you could get by with one. At least two pairs of trousers.

Thank you bluemascara

3 shirts, 2 jumpers, 2 pairs trousers/skirts

cjt110 · 07/06/2018 10:32

We wash almost daily. As we live in an apartment so our clothes are hung on a maiden and take a day or so to dry.

Depends on the child and how often you launder. In Reception through to Y4 my kids needed a change of clothes each day, so we had 4 sets of everything and I did a wash on a Wed which was dry and ironed Thurs, which provided Friday's clean clothes (our poloshirts weren't logo'd though).

I also know some girls children who had just 2 changes of uniform because they hardly ever got mucky.

In your position I'd probably not buy logo's polo shirts (if it's a state school they can't insist) and buy 3-4 sets of things to start with.

BalloonFlowers · 07/06/2018 10:35

5 polos, 5 trousers, 2 shorts, 2 jumpers. Could get away with 3 shirts, 3 trousers, but increased quantities when it looked like I had a job.
(2 sets of PE kit - but I have to send it in 3 times a week, which I think is unusual)

Butterflykissess · 07/06/2018 10:35

I would get more tbh! My kids stuff is always going missing at school he's lost 2 cardigans and 2 coats since starting! Despite them being labeled oh and my dd lost a bag.

Lifeaback · 07/06/2018 10:36

Mine each have 5 shirts (they seem to be incapable of making it through the day without spilling paint/yoghurt), 2 cardigans and 2 skirts

Beamur · 07/06/2018 10:36

If you wash often, allow for drying time and the above numbers will probably suffice. Presumably you can get more if needed? You might also find the school of the PTA will sell decent second hand ones too if you need spares.
I tend to have enough to see us through a week without washing as I work and DH probably wouldn't keep on top of it, even though he's at home more than me.

AlpacaLypse · 07/06/2018 10:36

2 jumpers 3 shirts. And don't forget to label them! Some people sew the labels to the outside which may look odd but makes it less likely for the clothes to be taken home by the wrong child.

cjt110 · 07/06/2018 10:36

BarbarianMum The shirts are yellow. Egg yolk yellow. Asda do yellow ones but far too pale. I don't think I'll be able to get around none logo-d as DS is a hot kid so sweats with too many layers

BlueJava · 07/06/2018 10:37

For each DS I have:
5 pairs of trousers
6 shirts
3 jumpers
1 blazer (plus an old one kept as "back up")
A ton of black socks
2 ties

As an aside I really detest school uniform! I don't see what's wrong with polo shirt and jeans plus trainers.

emz1990 · 07/06/2018 10:39

My DD1 is also starting September. I've got 10 polo shirts as she is always in the paint/sand/water so will need 2/3 spare ones in her bag to stay at school. I'm intending to buy 3 cardigans although reading these may just get 2 (£15 a cardigan!!)

Yura · 07/06/2018 10:39

Depends on the colour. if white, get 4-5. whiteboard market stains are the devil, and you'll want at least 1 stain free ind for phoyos etc.
trousers - depends. i would get 5 if your child is active as the knees go quickly. 2 jumpers is plenty

BarbarianMum · 07/06/2018 10:40

Egg yolk yellow! No I think you will have to go for logo'd then.

cjt110 · 07/06/2018 10:41

At present, he coms hom 99% of the time in his own clothes from nursery/GP's and 99% of the time without any marks (or those that could be sponge washed off)

My DS is in Reception. I have a baby so I just can’t face daily laundry.

7 polo shirts
4 trousers
4 shirts
3/4 jumpers

Label everything. My DS is always coming home stained, holes in stuff, stuff lost etc. I hate uniform.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 07/06/2018 10:43

If your washing twice a week then 3shirts,2 trousers,1jumper,1 lot of people kit(at most schools it only comes home weekly.
I haven't put too much down as they grow so quickly at that age.Alsi do check for second hand sales and label everything.

DatsunCogs · 07/06/2018 10:43

Mine only have one jumper each, I sponge food spills off nightly if needed... they're stupidly expensive though!

Yura · 07/06/2018 10:44

sorry, just read they are yellow. i would get 4-5, whiteboard marker shows on yellow

Redcrayons · 07/06/2018 10:45

I had 3 in reception and KS1, then shifted down to 2 trousers and jumpers in juniors.

I realised that most of the kids don’t wear the logo polo shirt so stopped buying them in year 1/2 and bought loads of cheap ones in Tesco, so they had a clean one every day. Fortunately they wore white, yellow is a bit more of a problem.

Yura · 07/06/2018 10:45

(i love uniform. i wentbto school in a country without dchool uniform, and it was horrible. only recommended if you are seriously well off)

Mari50 · 07/06/2018 10:47

My dd has 8 polo shirts, 6 shirts, 4 pinafores, one pair of shorts, four skirts, a pair of trousers, two pullovers and two cardigans. Basically because I’m a lazy bastard and this ensures that if I’m behind on the laundry she still has clothes.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 07/06/2018 10:50

Walk past the school at pick-up time and see how many of the children are actually wearing logoed stuff.

My kids have been through two primaries. Each did logoed jumpers and one did logoed polos. Most parents bought one logoed item per child for school photos and school trips, and then bought best of supermarket for the remaining jumpers and polo shirts. And that's what the kids wore at school most of the time.
