DS starts school in Sept and I don't know how many is best to buy. The jumpers and poloshirts are embroidered so can't just get a plain one from the supermarket. The jumpers at £9 each and the polo shirts are £7 each.

It's so touching to see all the little P1s on their first day, fully kitted out in their pristine uniform, blazers and all, looking like they're in a posh private school rather than the local council one. Fair makes me sniffle.

Then you turn around and see the fucking state of the P6s and P7s... yup, that'll be your wee darling in a few years time.

Mine had a set for every day in reception. I seem to have exceptionally grubby children and cannot be arsed with laundry in the week. We don't have a tumble drier either so getting stuff dry would be a pain. It's all supermarket apart from the cardigans so not too £££ and I bought massive cardigans which still fit in y2 so they've been good value really!

For both of mine I had 3 logo'd polo shirts, 2 logo'd jumpers and 2 pairs of trousers, 2 pairs of shorts too as it can be warm in Sept too. One full set of pe kit, plimsolls, wellies and waterproofs. All named clearly with sew in labels or good quality stick in shoe labels. Tips:
If it isn't compulsory to have the school pe bag get a different colour one, so easy to find their own things and their peg then.
Practice getting uniform on and off if they have to change for pe at school.
Practice putting on coat and zipping it up.
School dinners usually involves carrying a tray, worth a practice, as is use of cutlery and cups.
If packed lunch definitely either open the packets before or make sure they can open it, yoghurt tubes are the devils work and will end up on any clean jumper.
Washing up liquid on neat, cold water scrub then washing machine wash does get some whiteboard pen out, but not alway totally.
Keep fingernails short and encourage hand washing (threadworms). Tie up long hair and check/comb weekly (nits).
Make sure they can recognise their name as it will be on their peg and probably a drawer too.
