And I’m a recovering alcoholic. 5 months sober. All gone now like I’d never bothered. So here I am, back to square one

OP posts:

I had to post to say how amazing your achievement is. I wish I had never seen my own Mum drink, you are doing a fabulous thing for yourself and your family, esp your little one Star

Brainwave89 · 19/11/2021 15:26

The path to recovery will have some dips. You just have to keep going. As others have said. Tip it down the sink breathe and do not drink again.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/11/2021 15:27

What a fabulous update. Well done.

Casamilano · 19/11/2021 15:28

Good for you lass Flowers.

isthismylifenow · 19/11/2021 15:28

Congratulations OP. On 3 years and your beautiful baby. 💐

Atozofpoodles · 19/11/2021 15:30

@Hiphopopotamus

I haven’t had another one. I was in a restaurant by myself and ordered a glass. But I’m on my way home and I’ve bought a bottle. Thinking I might as well as I’ve broken my sobriety anyway.

And no need to worry about the kids - I don’t have any

Throw the bottle away. Move on.
Irishfarmer · 19/11/2021 15:31

Wonderful to hear OP. It is not an easy journey. You've done amazingly well

viques · 19/11/2021 15:33

That is the best update on a zombie thread I have ever read. Sincere congratulations on your sobriety, your daughter and your bravery.

Very unreasonable really, have you got the mindset to be sensible, and not have any more, knowing that you have stopped before..

You do need to stop. there is going to be a lot of booze around during Christmas, as in peoples home. on TV advertising, on supermarket shelves. everywhere to tempt people. good luck.

MangoBiscuit · 19/11/2021 15:34

Well done OP, that's wonderful news.

Nanalisa60 · 19/11/2021 15:35

Never give up!! admitting you are a alcoholic is half the battle. Just accept that you like everyone else is not perfect and that you have just had a setback and start again.

Wotagain · 19/11/2021 15:36

How lovely, you brave, resilient, magnificent woman! You kept going and look how far you have come?
You deserve to feel very proud of yourself and congratulations on becoming a mum.

BreathingDeep · 19/11/2021 15:36

Hophop what a wonderful update! Congratulations on your daughter and on your sheer brilliance at being three years sober. You are incredible and you have an army of internet strangers waving pom poms in your direction.

FortVictoria · 19/11/2021 15:37

You have come so far, don’t give up on yourself. This is a bend in the road, not the end of the journey. Pour the rest of the bottle out, call for help, get back on track. Most journeys don’t go in a straight line. Don’t be hard on yourself, and don’t give up. Sending you a hug.

LFH1990 · 19/11/2021 15:38

That’s, so lovely, congratulations and well done, you should be really proud of yourself

friendlycat · 19/11/2021 15:39

What a fabulous update. Well well done OP. You’ve come so far. Wishing you and your family all the best.

FortVictoria · 19/11/2021 15:39

Sorry - I posted before realising it was an older thread and you had moved on so far. But good for you!! You have much to be proud of - well done.

Bookwormbitch · 19/11/2021 15:40

Amazing! You’ve come so far from the person you were. What an incredible update Smile

Sparklesocks · 19/11/2021 15:40

Well done OP, much to be proud of ✨

@Hiphopopotamus

So I’m resurrecting my old zombie thread for a second time just to confuse everyone! (Apologies to all who will only read the first post and offer me advice based on that - that’s on me) But I find this thread a really helpful one to come back to and reread and reflect on where I was and where I am now.

Last time I posted I was six months sober and still a bit shaky about the whole thing. I’m now over three years sober. I haven’t touched a drop in all that time, and if I’m ever tempted I look at my new one year old daughter and it reminds me how much she deserves me to be at my best, and not my old drinking self. She has never seen me drink, and my hope is she never will. As a family we’ve been through some tough times in the last couple of years (haven’t we all!) and to stay sober through it all has been one of my biggest achievements.

So if you are currently reading this and struggling, or thinking about quitting, or beating yourself up for falling off the wagon, it really can be done. It might not always go smooth and you might have bumps along the way, but I have found that I can cope with anything as long as I don’t drink.

So inspirational!Flowers
Stuckhere2021 · 19/11/2021 15:44

Well done OP and thanks for the update. I am struggling with alcohol addiction (emotional rather than physical) so it’s lovely to hear that people have beaten it Flowers

percythewitch · 19/11/2021 15:44

@Atozofpoodles @1forAll74

This thread was started 3 and a half years ago.

OP has posted an update today. Maybe read that.

sonjadog · 19/11/2021 15:46

Congratulations, OP!

On another note, it is fascinating to see how many people only read the first post before commenting! Grin

MuchTooTired · 19/11/2021 15:49
