Express breast milk I mean. I'm en route to London, v crowded train. The loo has shit on the seat. Vestibules all crowded.

I'd obviously express under a coat so no one would see anything but it's noisy (the Medela Swing).

My first meeting is at 10 so no time to express till 2pm.

WIBU to do this? Too weird? Confused

I’ve done it with the same pump. Not sure anybody could hear it over the background train noise and nobody seemed to notice.

Go for it.

NameChange30 · 06/06/2018 09:04

I wouldn’t. I would feel too self conscious. But if you don’t then go for it.

For future, I’ve heard you can get breast shell things that you put in your bra and they collect milk.

BlackRibboner · 06/06/2018 09:04

I would

BlackRibboner · 06/06/2018 09:05

And have used breast shells, but they only collect the leaks. Doesn't give relief when you're full and isn't enough to feed a baby!

PavlovianLunge · 06/06/2018 09:06

If you’ve got to do it, do it. I’ve never heard one, so I might look up, if I heard it, but I’d not have a problem with it - bottom line, it wouldn’t be any of my business.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 06/06/2018 09:08

Ok, thanks gang, I'm doing it!

RafflesMaidenSister · 06/06/2018 09:08

I used to do it regularly. It’s miserable but no one was ever unpleasant about it. I think it’s better manners than keeping one toilet occupied for at least 15 minutes.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 06/06/2018 09:13

I never thought about that Raffles - I usually use the loo! Blush

YANBU. Not weird at all. I would rather pump or feed anywhere than a public loo.

MustShowDH · 06/06/2018 09:29

If anyone hears it, they'll just assume you're wearing love eggs!
Have a nice day!

Pengggwn · 06/06/2018 09:31

Can't lie - it's unusual, to the extent that I wouldn't do it myself and have never seen anyone else do it. But it is not unacceptable.

midnightmisssuki · 06/06/2018 09:34

i would do it (and have done it) If you are comfortable doing it - go ahead.

Slartybartfast · 06/06/2018 09:37

when do you normally express?

dueanotherchange · 06/06/2018 09:43

I don't think I would have been able to do so but I was rubbish at expressing anyway.

While noisy, I think the Medela will be less obvious than a hand held one anyway as once you're on you'll have less to do.

Hope it went ok!

Wetcappuccino · 06/06/2018 09:44

Most people will have headphones in etc and be tuned out. Go for it.

meetthewildes · 06/06/2018 09:44

I used to do this daily on my commute. Got a few funny looks on occasion - but whatever. I was working 12-hour days with two-week-old twins at home, and they needed to be fed.

Go for it!

Mrsmadevans · 06/06/2018 09:46

Carry on OP, it is good to hear you are BF your DC , well done . If anyone said anything to you they are just and awful awful person and you must take no heed.

DesignedForLife · 06/06/2018 09:49

Much better there than in the toilet yes.

Gemini69 · 06/06/2018 10:06

I wouldn’t but that is my squeamishness rather than there being anything wrong with it (I also found I had to do a lot of adjusting to get letdown started, and that would involve getting my whole breast out).

Breastfeeding on the train, no problem at all. But expressing is a step too far if there are people sitting directly opposite you. When I had this happen I just ducked into John Lewis at the other end and did it there. I was a bit engorged but DS was 8 months old at that stage so not as urgent as it would have been when he was younger.

PalePinkSwan · 06/06/2018 10:38

I think most passengers would prefer you express discreetly at your seat rather than take up a toilet for fifteen minutes or more.
