The slog of this authoritarian shitshow is grinding us all down. My inspiration has gone into hiding with Melania. Knock yourselves out! (Trump cont.)

I don't know if there's been a recent poll that's not included, but the polls I can find show Trump has a negative approval rating:

projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/

He's gone up ever so slightly recently, but only to where he was a few months ago.

PerkingFaintly · 15/06/2018 07:38

I'm sure I've seen a poll where he approval for Trump had gone up significantly among Republican voters, but I can't lay my hands on it.

So I can't actually read the small print, which matters when dealing with percentages.

Because one possibility is that it's not that more people approve of Trump, but that people who don't approve of him are ceasing to vote Republican.

All of which only matters if democracy holds. If the GOP continues to work with him to undermine democracy, then all bets are off.

lionheart · 15/06/2018 07:44

I read that report (late night) and also Comey's book.

Really interesting to compare the two.

I like him less today.

BolleauxtoBankers · 15/06/2018 07:44

Thanks, Roussette, I'll have a look at that when I feel stronger, as I'm back to mostly sticking my fingers in my ears and singing lalalalalalala about everything important. I'm afraid I'm beginning to believe that an extraordinarily bad Brexit is definitely going to happen, and that Trump is with us till he dies and his death will be of natural causes. We are currently planning our bunker retirement to an island in the Mediterranean, which unfortunately is not particularly safe because of another dictator a right-wing leader.
I like that New Yorker cartoon, though! This is one from Greece.

Roussette · 15/06/2018 07:51

I understand Boll, it's hard not to get bogged down with all the awfulness going on at the moment. I'm in the Med currently and it's beautiful Smile

'Sarah Sanders is standing in front of a camera now LYING about the government taking children from parents at the border, insisting that there has been no change of policy whatsoever. She then adds that the party not in charge of any branch of government needs to change the law.'

lionheart · 15/06/2018 07:57

I'm thinking that if they have to resort to Scripture to defend their shit, they are in bigly trouble.

Perking, I think that must be the one the husband was talking about, though I can't find it. Depressingly, though, I did find this from CNN in May.
Ah - have just found this, also from CNN, a week ago.
So now am looking at calming photos of the Med and glad that we'll be in Athens this time next week, going to at least one, and maybe two, Greek weddings Grin

ohmymimi · 15/06/2018 08:09

I keep hearing all these talking heads on MSNBC, CNN saying ' this is not America', 'this is not my America', 'this is not who we are'. 'This is what we have become' would be more honest.

BolleauxtoBankers · 15/06/2018 08:30

ohmymimi - too right. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/06/2018 08:35

So who is coming to the anti Trump protest on the 13th July?

Minimammoth · 15/06/2018 08:36

I think I might get to work on that ‘The End is Nigh’ placard. Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/06/2018 08:44

Excellent! Maybe we need a few Handmaid Tale themed ones as well around the concept of children being separated from parents.
We don't have massively good form for that here with refugee children in the UK either.

ohmymimi · 15/06/2018 09:02

lion, You were asking what Farenthold is up to. He was on Hayes 'All In' yesterday, first item, and he explained how he is still burrowing away.

Also covered, direct from the whistleblower, child immigrant detention from the inside (the recoded message parents get when trying to find their children is everything your expect from this regime). So biblical:

Gumpendorf · 15/06/2018 09:05

I heard someone on MSNBC mention that Trump's popularity among Republicans was the highest of any President with the exception of GWB after 9/11. Though, as Perking says, it depends on the figures and many 'normal' Republicans seem to have abandoned the party in the last year.

I'm not sure any of this matters any more, though. Democracy, as we knew it, seems to have been abandoned in the UK and the US. Nothing is normal anymore.ConfusedSad

Green with envy at stories of the Med. A long term leak means lots of building stress and no hols for me this year. Let's hope there will be good news. Smile

The poll showing trumps popularity is described in the Times as a Gallup poll. I have to say, the Times is very keen on pro trump headlines. Anything less than enthusiastic tends to be down in the later paragraphs.

Trump wins sky-high poll ratings from the Republican grass roots
Donald Trump is more popular among members of his own party than any president since the Second World War except for George W Bush. On day 500 of his term of office, which was June 4, Mr Trump’s approval rating among Republicans stood at 87 per cent, according to Gallup.

Thanks sleip. I always feel uncomfortable until I see a source.

Meanwhile, the WH response to the IG report has been muted but Giuliani was on Hannity last night calling for Mueller review to be closed.

Meanwhile, today it's a big day in court for Manafort and Cohen.

lionheart · 15/06/2018 09:26

Thanks ohmy. Smile

I will be in London on that day anyway and reckon I can make it.

BolleauxtoBankers · 15/06/2018 09:30

Thank you for finding that, Sleipnirthewonderhorse - like Gumpendorf, I am happy to see a source. Well, actually, not happy as such in this case

lionheart · 15/06/2018 10:09

I saw something similar in The Times today and had to put it down.
