Just getting up to see if the US and Canada are at war and distracted by that Politico article about the records management staff. It really shows how chaotic behaviour is used as a weapon to cause misery at every level.

TheClaws · 10/06/2018 23:58

Quantum and ”lion that records management article is a fascinating insight. It does reveal that, as a narcissist, it doesn’t occur to him to think of the impact of his actions on others - or if he does, he is certain they wouldn’t mind as they are only ‘doing their job’.

PerkingFaintly · 11/06/2018 00:01

From the Politico article:

Meet the guys who tape Trump's papers back together
www.politico.com/story/2018/06/10/trump-papers-filing-system-635164

Under the Presidential Records Act, the White House must preserve all memos, letters, emails and papers that the president touches, sending them to the National Archives for safekeeping as historical records.

But White House aides realized early on that they were unable to stop Trump from ripping up paper after he was done with it and throwing it in the trash or on the floor, according to people familiar with the practice. Instead, they chose to clean it up for him, in order to make sure that the president wasn’t violating the law.

Staffers had the fragments of paper collected from the Oval Office as well as the private residence and send it over to records management across the street from the White House for Larkey and his colleagues to reassemble.

“We got Scotch tape, the clear kind,” Lartey recalled in an interview. “You found pieces and taped them back together and then you gave it back to the supervisor.” The restored papers would then be sent to the National Archives to be properly filed away.

Lartey said the papers he received included newspaper clips on which Trump had scribbled notes, or circled words; invitations; and letters from constituents or lawmakers on the Hill, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

“I had a letter from Schumer — he tore it up,” he said. “It was the craziest thing ever. He ripped papers into tiny pieces.”

Lartey did not work alone. He said his entire department was dedicated to the task of taping paper back together in the opening months of the Trump administration.

I'm American and I'm about to swim the Atlantic whilst dragging my stuff behind me and then climb into your back yard, just to get a breather.

Has anyone posted this article before? A really sobering read on the Russian playbook as published 20 years ago and being clearly fulfilled today.

And this morning I get up to discover that trump has spent the night farting away on twitter about the meanness of Canada, Germany and NATO in general. Interesting preparation for this week's talks. If he's trying to look tough for kju he's failing miserably.

ohmymimi · 11/06/2018 07:41

Earlier today heard an impressive and encouraging interview with some of the Parkland students embarking on their 'Road to Change' mission. These young adults understand where inaction could lead their country.

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 11/06/2018 07:47

Oh sorry, my mistake, he doesn't need to prepare for the talks-

He confidently predicted that he would be able to assess within “the first five seconds” whether the North Korean leader was ready to deal in good faith. “Within the first minute, I’ll know. My touch, my feel — that’s what I do,” Mr Trump added.

He confidently predicted that he would be able to assess within “the first five seconds” whether the North Korean leader was ready to deal in good faith

And yet he's complaining of being tricked by Trudeau. Hmm

Lweji · 11/06/2018 07:57

Ups, posted before clicking the link.😀

You'd be welcome KBHOC but then you'd be swimming right into this Brexity mess.

nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/06/president-trump-blows-up-the-g7-summit.html?utm_source=tw&utm_medium=s3&utm_campaign=sharebutton-t

'It had already been an extremely tense G7 meeting. Just before showing up late, President Trump had suggested Russia rejoin the alliance, to the consternation of most of his ostensible allies. He had harangued world leaders over their supposedly unfair trade practices, disrupted a women’s empowerment meeting, and generally acted as a one-man diplomatic wrecking ball. Still, despite everything, he had agreed to sign on to the communique traditionally cobbled together by the countries at the end of the summit — previously a formality, now just an indication, however tenuous, that America was still on board with the liberal democratic project it helped build in the ashes of World War II.'

Lweji · 11/06/2018 08:02

Swim to the Azores or Iceland. Half the distance and no Brexit. Grin

TheNorthWestPawsage · 11/06/2018 08:04

Just read on BBC site that Trumpy and Kim will first meet alone with just translators present - no one else!! Are they effing mad? Trump will say anything, promise anything to look good. Kim will get the equivalent of a NK Christmas with knobs on!

TheNorthWestPawsage · 11/06/2018 08:07

Sorry - it was The Guardian:
www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/11/trump-kim-summit-north-korea-hails-new-era-of-relations-with-the-us?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
The format for the historic talks, at a luxury island hotel, was still far from clear. A US official said that the first session of the Tuesday morning talks would be between two leaders alone with translators but no advisors and aides. They would enter the negotiating room only after that first one-on-one session was over. The official said it was unclear how long that first session would last.

It was reported that Kim planned to fly back to North Korea in the early afternoon on Thursday, leaving very little time for actual negotiations, although there is still considerable uncertainty about what a deal between the leaders would look like.

A few facts to debunk Trump’s claim:

  • China has stolen tens of billions dollars in US trade secrets over >decade
  • China requires US companies to transfer technology to Chinese partners as prerequisite for access
  • China bans top US tech firms incl Twitter Facebook & Google 1/

And no note takers, North.Hmm

TheNorthWestPawsage · 11/06/2018 08:11

BBC's Robert Kelly:
Whoa. This is sliding toward what we have all feared: Kim flatters Trump; no one’s around to warn Trump; T gives something important away, because he doesn’t understand the issues, bc he didn’t prepare and couldn’t care less about the US architecture in Asia. This is a bad idea

ohmymimi · 11/06/2018 08:16

That Kim/Trump one to one. No notes, but maybe tapes. Kim will be missing a trick, if not.

lionheart · 11/06/2018 08:16

Good thinking there, Lweji.

Or Galway maybe.

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 11/06/2018 08:51

Yes, it's stupid having a private meeting with just the two of them and interpreters (imagine how much control those interpreters will have!) but it didn't really matter what is agreed. Trump has spent the last few months proving that any agreement made with him, and by extension, the US government, is utterly worthless.
