First two episodes of Game of Thrones- I have problems (contains spoilers obviously)

Have only watched two episodes but it seems so fucked up.

So the blonde beautiful girl who gets married off to the big oaf guy and his army..she basically gets raped by him but then she asks a girl, who became a prostitute slave at the age 9, how to seduce him? And then she goes back to the oaf and they have some intense sex that I presume is meant to be sexy, even though it's basically rape.

HUH??

Also that dwarf guy is meant to be some kind of ledge despite the fact he shags loads of prostitutes.

Yeah, but don't worry, they all learn valuable life lessons, grow as people and dedicate their lives to helping others. In many ways GoT a very feminist series and (SPOILERS)....

...they all live happily ever after.

Also, I struggled with the first probably or 4 episodes from a feminist point of view. But then you start to notice the power the women are developing / have. The later series have some seriously fantastic female character development. Its well worth hanging in there.

Also, buy a dedicated note book and start making notes now. You'll need them.

I recommend finding the game of thrones Alt Shift X video on you tube after each one you watch. I am not sure that these exist for the very earliest episodes, but generally there is a 5 minute recap of each episode highlighting the important bits you were supposed to recognise from previous episodes or will need to remember for future episodes, as well as clever bits you might have missed and clarifications where what is on screen is confusing.

I think that if you’re going to write a long story of dynastic struggle influenced by the Wars of the Roses then it’s inevitable that you’ll be dealing with marital alliances which means in practice young women’s bodies being used as pawns (and young men also being forced to have sex with partners not of their personal choosing though I’m not claiming it’s equivalent).

The happy hooker stuff however is all on George and the showrunners.

There is only one (or two) remotely happy whores in the book series that I recall - Chataya and (possibly) her daughter.

George does a pretty good job of showing how most sex-workers end up in that role through financial desperation or slavery. Ros was entirely D&D’s creation.
