I have a young baby and also a preschool aged child.
I was made redundant while on maternity leave with dc1 and became a sahm sort of by accident! It’s been very nice to have this time, but I’m keen to get back to work for a number of reasons.
I am thinking of starting a distance learning course to boost my cv a bit. Initial thoughts are either an accounts assistant qualification through ATA or a legal secretarial qualification.
I have some legal admin experience and also a Scottish paralegal qualification which I gained while living in Scotland. We now live in England. The two countries have different legal systems, so the qualification isn’t worth anything here.
I have no accounts experience, except through raising purchase orders etc at work, some low level banking and bookkeeping and some working with numbers / finance through my paralegal qualification (I specialised in wills, estates and executries, so there were lots of figures and money involved in coursework and the exam).
So, wwyd? One of these courses, something else or none of the above and just try to get back to work without any further training?
The natural thing seems to continue with legal stuff, but my work experience is now about 10 years old as I moved into another sector later, (which I don’t especially wish to go back to). Also, just browsing jobs boards and there seem to be so many accounts jobs where I live. It would be great to be in demand instead of having to work my arse off to convince people to employ me, as I usually end up having to do.
I’m a bit desperate for advice as I feel rather lost just now. Hence posting on Aibu.
I also have a degree fwiw. Good uni, modern language with politics, 2:2 (have forgotten it all - or a lot of it)!
