AIBU being upset with FB woman

I sold a laptop on Facebook it was sold as seen but it worked fine

She was happy with it and handed over 350 pounds and I have her the passwords I offered to do a factory reset and remove the passwords she declined stating that she would remove them when she got home and assured me she would do it so that my photos etc where wiped

6 months later she still had not done this and moaned at me because not being able to print etc and she said she lost the printed out password

I tired to help but I couldn't and she got very angry and defensive and started blaming me saying it was my fault for setting the password

I've now blocked her but no thanks no nothing for being up till 3 am trying to get the firmware password turned off

I managed it in the end by trying every password I ever used and then she changed her tune

I said I am glad it's sorted because I never want to deal with her again

Was I wrong to blog her and be upset when she lost the print outs and then went on a angry rant blaming me for her misfortune?

You don't even know her so block away

Jaxinthebox · 04/06/2018 18:38

YANBU - but I would never sell a laptop without resetting it. Lesson learned I hope.

MrsDylanBlue · 04/06/2018 18:38

You “offered” to do a factory reset?! Shock

I can’t believe you didn’t.

Cuffuffle · 04/06/2018 18:39

You've given her all your passwords to try?!?

Is this for real?

Nicknacky · 04/06/2018 18:40

Why wouldn't you factory reset it and hand over a laptop with all your info on it?! And did you give her your password?

J4nice · 04/06/2018 18:42

Yes unfortunately

How it came a out is that she said she wanted to see it 6 months ago and she was going to gmarrange a time but she just showed up unannounced, rang the door bell and I didn't have time to wipe it

I wanted to buy she wouldn't wait the 2 hours for the osx to wipe and reinstall

You handed over a laptop with personal information on it including passwords and photos? What a monumentally stupid thing to do.

J4nice · 04/06/2018 18:44

Yes she got my passwords but soon as I realised this I had to change them all and use a password safe to generate store new passwords

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 04/06/2018 18:45

You did have time. You should have factory reset it before you advertised it for sale.

Exactly why are you upset with her?!

Greyponcho · 04/06/2018 18:45

So now she has your name, address, info on your Facebook profile and a load of passwords you’ve used, and possibly links to websites you’ve used... all she needs to defraud you.
I’d get all your passwords for everything EVER changed pronto!

marjorie25 · 04/06/2018 18:45

I would NEVER ever sell a computer to anyone without formatting the hard drive.
You cannot trust people. They say one thing and do something.
Just say for example that you used your computer for online banking - do I need to say more.
The only person you can trust is yourself and on this occasion yourself left you down.

J4nice · 04/06/2018 18:45

I know but in my defence I am suffering with PTSD and was very ill that day having been triggered

OP posts:
SillyMoomin · 04/06/2018 18:46

I have no words Shock

You clearly need a lesson in common sense op

You are completely and utterly lucky nothing has been hacked / anything happened to your photos (that you are aware of)

Nicknacky · 04/06/2018 18:47

I'm sorry to hear you were ill but that doesn't explain why you didn't do it when you decided to sell?

J4nice · 04/06/2018 18:48

@Greyponcho believe me I have and it was a universally stupid thing to do and o didn't even know her or where she was from if I needed to go to the police if I was defrauded

VladmirsPoutine · 04/06/2018 18:48

What is shocking and unreasonable here is not the woman's behaviour but your utter remiss, careless and naive approach to your personal data and security! Shock.

strayducks18 · 04/06/2018 18:48

Blimey you are bonkers not to have reset it and wiped your photos and passwords. Doesn't matter if she didn't want to wait you should have insisted

Plumsofwrath · 04/06/2018 18:49

Should the situation ever arise again, default should be to lose the sale. Don’t ever ever give anyone access to your identity again. It can ruin your life.

Aquamarine1029 · 04/06/2018 18:52

Jesus Christ. Confused

Scrumptiousbears · 04/06/2018 18:53

You are very lucky she hasn't stolen your identity OP. No excuse.

TheLionRoars1110 · 04/06/2018 18:53

Oh gosh OP I'm sorry you're so ill! Are you getting help? Life can be overwhelming with ptsd and it's easy to avoid any sort of conflict.
Lesson learned. Make sure all passwords are changed. I hope she doesn't do anything untoward with the photos/info

MrsCD67 · 04/06/2018 19:02

Bonkers

J4nice · 04/06/2018 19:06

@TheLionRoars1110 I'm trying to get treatment but the bus won't offer it while the triggers are ongoing because they said that it would hinder recovery so I have a few private sessions locally

I was lucky I didn't loose everything on my laptop but my lesson is very learned and never again would I sekk without wiping

OP posts:
UserV · 04/06/2018 19:07

It's bonkers all right @Mrscd67
