Aibu or is it just my dh that's turning into a grumpy old man?

He's just so snappy all the time, he huffs like everything is a chore. I love him dearly but everything is so meh, until it's something he finds funny and then it gets his back up if we don't all find all the same things funny. He's only mid 30s, I'm starting to wonder how I'll cope with him for the duration if this is just the start of his grumpy old fart phase. Other couples still seem to have energy and go out and do things, is it just my dh?

No. Not just yours. Mine's been through the Victor Meldrew stage and has slipped ineluctably into 'Childish Snickering Schoolboy'. The things he claims to find funny would make any grown and reasonable person weep. You probably have this to look forward to. Sorry.

No, he shouldn't be a grumpy old fart in his mid 30s!

You say he's snappy and huffs, is there anything going on behind that? Has there been any major-ish change at work, with family or something else that coincides with the start of this behaviour?

same here. it feels like he s never happy and it's so fucking draining! we have a lot of life stresses right now and he works a lot while I'm studying and then we have 2 young kids but even still. I'm just sick of it and it brings me down too

I admit that I’m starting to turn into a grumpy old man and I’m 32 😕😭

Grumpy old men don’t always snap and huff at everything though! Do you do things as a family/couple or is he not interested?

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 03/06/2018 18:45

Have you actually told him!!??
Dh also morphs into Victor Meldrew at times. Quick kick up the arse (verbal reminder I don't find VM sexy and he sorts himself out!).

TheMonkeyMummy · 03/06/2018 20:41

Mine is the same. His dad makes Victor Meldrew look utterly delightful, so I usually call him by his dads name or say 'the fun adjusters here' etc etc... it seems to work, am desperately hoping that it won't get worse with age!

MapMyMum · 03/06/2018 23:44

I have told him, and called him his Dad's name too but that just gets thrown back at me at times and I wonder if it just makes him feel worse. He works long hours at a physical job so I know he does get tired, but I work full time and do most of the childcare for 4 kids too but I manage to keep my mood up most of the time, like most people. He has agreed to get his bloods checked anyway to see if maybe he's anaemic or anything like that, but he's always been a little like this, it just seems to get more and more frequent as he's getting older!
