To think that no one likes their middle name?

My DDs like each other’s middle names, but not their own. DH and I don’t like ours. Extrapolating to the rest of the world, no one likes their middle names, but I am not sure why.

Mine is Jayne, I don’t mind it

Eliza9917 · 03/06/2018 14:19

I like mine, Charlotte, but only use it when filling out official forms that ask for it.

DaisysStew · 03/06/2018 14:19

I much prefer my middle name to my first name.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/06/2018 14:21

I like my middle name, but given it was supposed to be my first name, the that is probably why. hate my first name though, but stuck with it.

Uyulala · 03/06/2018 14:23

I share mine with my mother and sister. DD has two - one her dad chose and one is middle name of great-great-great grandmother and middle of great-grandma.

I like mine. It's quite "filler" though. DDs are both classic names.

Bekabeech · 03/06/2018 14:24

I quite like mine, DH quite likes his too. The DC like/tolerate theirs. Well DS finds his a bit hard to spell. DD likes hers or used to want to use it instead of her 1st name. Other DD doesn't like hers but used to prefer a diminutive of it to her real name.
SIL uses hers rather than her 1st name. BIL finds his a bit embarrassing (as does at leas one nephew) - in both cases they are "unusual" and a bit embarrassing (and I've never seen either on boy baby name lists).

Uyulala · 03/06/2018 14:24

*first name of her ggg-gma and middle of g-gma.

Longdistance · 03/06/2018 14:25

I love mine. Martha 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s made a comeback in the name stakes as I’ve met a few people who’ve named their daughters Martha.

fuzzywuzzy · 03/06/2018 14:26

My DC like their middle names as does DP (he likes his middle name)

WhiskeySourpuss · 03/06/2018 14:26

I hate mine & never use it/tell anyone what it is!

It's my grandmothers maiden surname & also a place name & I don't understand what my parents were thinking - the boys got our grandfathers first names as middle names (James & Hugh) & I'm stuck with this monstrosity Hmm

halcyondays · 03/06/2018 14:26

I like my middle name better than my first name.

CatLadyToddlerMother · 03/06/2018 14:37

I’m neither here nor there about mine.

Still love DDs as it’s after my Nan who died in 2014 she’s too young to have an opinion on it

HappyLollipop · 03/06/2018 14:44

I'm not a fan of my middle name I think it's far too old fashioned and frumpy although it gets a lot of love on here but it was my great-grandmothers name.

juneau · 03/06/2018 14:46

I have two - a name of a distant relative + mum's maiden name. I'd happily dump the random name and have mum's + my maiden names instead.

kaytee87 · 03/06/2018 14:52

I like mine, it's after my Gran.

MrsCD67 · 03/06/2018 14:55

DH and I like ours

haverhill · 03/06/2018 14:57

I like mine. I like the idea of an extra ‘hidden’ name. My friend hasn’t got one and was thoroughly narked off about it as a child.

wannabehack · 03/06/2018 14:58

I love my middle name. I'm named after my mum.

wannabehack · 03/06/2018 14:58

@BlondeB83 Louise?

Thishatisnotmine · 03/06/2018 15:00

Mine is fine. Mid-eighties middle name which was shared with half the girls in any class growing up.

Merryoldgoat · 03/06/2018 15:02

I was never really keen on mine. However, I was talking to my grandmother about mine and it’s got quite a significant family history behind it so I’ve changed my mind as I like the symbolism.

Sweetpea55 · 03/06/2018 15:03

I have one and my dd1 has the same middle name,,we both love it

GibbertyFlibbert · 03/06/2018 15:03

I use my middle name in preference to my first name

AviatorShades · 03/06/2018 15:06

First off, what I really but really don't like is the blanket assumption posited by no one likes. For me it's on a par with everybody likes chocolate/cake, whatever..phrases like that push my buttons. Confused

But to my given names. I've two. My first is always used by family, my second by the rest of the world.Grin

I prefer the second. It's a better 'fit' after all these years.

AnnDerry · 03/06/2018 15:10

Love mine - it's been used by almost all the women in the family and is classic and beautiful. The other middle name is a bit random - Scottish surname. We are not Scottish. However it was my GM's middle name as well (and possibly her godmother's surname - but she wasn't sure.) So my middle names are a complete name in themselves and if I ever write a novel will be my pen name!
