Expedia pocketing Air Passenger Duty for 12-16 Year Olds - £78 long haul flights

Air Passenger duty for 12 - 16 year olds was scrapped by the UK government from 2016 (2015 for under 12’s).

I however discovered today that Expedia are still charging it for children!

I only realised what was going on when the total payable was less via BA’s website than Expedia’s even though the adult fare was the same.

Please check when booking flights and packages - it can make a big difference. I was going to book through Expedia for the hotel + flight saving plus cash back - but this eats up a big chunk of the saving not to mention what CF they are being.

I did call them - but got nowhere. They tried to say it was BA’s fault, but having mucked around and tried a few different airlines - APD was being charged for my 12 year old for all of them on Expedia.

Thanks for the warning!

We had same issue last year. In theory when you enter api the airline should refund direct but we had to chase it. Likewise with package holidays where you pay the same adult charge for an under 16.
