To have to switch the sound off on ITV football commentary

Their commentary is just so banal and they talk such drivel, it drives me mad.

Anyone else is fine, BBC, Sky, BT Sport, Radio 5 live, Talk Sport but ITV gives me the rage.

And it's not a self-fulfilling thing, DS and DH have 'tested me' by making me listen without knowing which channel it is and I can spot them every time!!

Anyone else feel the same?

YANBU but nothing is as bad as Glenn Hoddle though! I refuse to listen to him as not only is he a bland, boring commentator, he's horrible excuse for a human being.

YWBMoreR to turn the football off altogether. I realise this is not a popular opinion.

Slanetylor · 02/06/2018 18:10

I find ALL football commentary to be some sort of hypnotic migraine inducing chant. I do not know how people listen to it. Other sports are exciting or interesting in some way. But the listing out of peoples names as they touch the ball untethers me from my sanity.

During the World Cup it’s awful, constant 1966 references despite the fact that 3 other countries are watching and don’t care about 1966. I turn it into a drinking game 😃

loudaloneknows · 02/06/2018 18:15

Trevor Francis is worse. Glenn Hoddle is bad but Trevor was in a whole other league.

Used to find the best trick was to put the tv on silent, then put a radio commentary on.

Trying to do that now, actually ...

JayoftheRed · 02/06/2018 20:58

Fluffyears, I doubt very much that Wales, Ireland or Scotland are watching England games. The commentary for those games will be more suited to the audience, so will probably not mention 1966 very much at all.

Op, YARBU. ITV are dreadful, not just the commentary but the analysis too. Not to mention the adverts!

RusholmeRuffian · 02/06/2018 22:01

YANBU. I did the same. ITV shouldn't be allowed near football.

It find it a bit soporific and reminds me of when my mum would go on 'girls night' once a month or so and dad would let us stay up to watch match of the day, I didn't really want to watch it but it was on late, and he often took me and DB to watch matches, but inevitably i'd fall asleep watching it and wake up in bed or next morning in bed. Maybe dad just didn't want the 'it's Saturday can we stay up' argument and used it as a ruse... It did mean over the years I developed a good knowledge of football which stood me in good stead as a barmaid in my youth. DH hates football and these days it's me that stays up watching MOTD, had a fantasy team in the work league etc. DF is bemused by this as I'm pretty sure he thought he was doing any future husband a massive favour!

*jayofthered during the world cup we watch all the games even the England ones. What is annoying is you can be watching Uruguay v France and They’ll start discussing 1966??? Yes England won, well done but it is not relevant at all. Like I say it’s a good drinking game, a shot for each 1966 mention and then before half time you are pissed.

user1471517900 · 03/06/2018 14:18

During a World Cup 90% of 1966 references are made by Scottish people complaining that England talk about it too much.....

araiwa · 03/06/2018 14:38

Typically itv is awful.

Compare when bbc and itv have same game and viewing figures shows many agree

sonlypuppyfat · 03/06/2018 14:40

I'm 51 and I've never been able to sit through a whole game, I detest it with a passion
