"Cult comedy Father Ted is set to return as a musical, its co-creator has confirmed.

Graham Linehan said the show, called Pope Ted: The Father Ted Musical, was almost written.

Fellow writer Arthur Matthews and the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon, who wrote the show's theme tune and original music, are involved in the project.

Linehan said it would be "the real final episode of Father Ted".

He told the BBC: "It's like putting on an old pair of slippers." "

Just don't fuck up the awesomeness that was Father Ted. Seriously - they're making a Top Gun sequel and now this?!

(I await the inevitable barrage of Father Ted quotes)

Well that would be an ecumenical question.

It could be brilliant. Neil Hannon is a genius. But it could be dreadful. Fingers crossed it’s good!

Matter not question!

I hope it’s good or I’ll be irrationally cross.

I remain certain that Mrs Doyle was based on my Irish Nanna.

I’d say they’d love a good, hard kick up the arse.

Nah - my 6 year old daughter who's very upset she's not allowed to use the coffee machine to offer people drinks yet so is relentlessly offering everyone cups of water and gingerbread unicorns/dinosaurs is some kind of Mrs Doyle/Talkie Toaster hybrid monster at the moment.
