Neighbour has had Virgin Media wire installed on our wall

Yes the awful neighbour I wrote about last week.

I wonder what I can do about it? Firstly because they’re making my lives a living hell and don’t see why I should ignore that they’ve put it there without permission and secondly because if we want to amend/change/upkeep that part of the property we cannot because the wire is there

AIBU to just cut the damn thing off?

😮😮😮 CF

Sorry I have no actual advice but I’m shocked!

AlonsoTigerHeart · 02/06/2018 16:13

Snip snip

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 16:14

Yes me too. You’d think they have bloody left me alone given they’ve put this thing in my front wall knowing they don’t have permission but they haven’t, they’ve carried on reporting me and causing trouble.

I just want to cut the damn thing off, paint the wall and carrying on with my life

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 16:14

I have no obligation to keep it there, do I?

Did Virgin Media install it? Perhaps you could call them for advice.

user1471590586 · 02/06/2018 16:16

Complain directly to Virgin Media. They will have to move it.

Gratefulninja · 02/06/2018 16:20

Maybe you could suddenly decide to hang a flower basket on that wall using a drill that inconveniently goes straight through the wire? 😜😜
Definitely ring virgin media, even if they refuse to get involved they might be able to point you in the right direction :-)

NatashaRomanov · 02/06/2018 16:21

The wire probably belongs to Virgin Media, so I wouldn't cut it. But I would be on the phone and social media to them, freely expressing my displeasure

SoupDragon · 02/06/2018 16:22

Surely the Virgin Media engineer installed it, not your neighbour. Complain to them.

SoupDragon · 02/06/2018 16:23

When I had mine done (many years ago!) they didn’t ask where to put the cable, they just did it.

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 16:25

Yes I think I will. I’m worried that it will be a problem when we come to buy the property.

Ring Virgin and complain that their box has been wrongly installed on your wall and so it needs to be removed. Can you take it off or do they need to do it and what are they going to do to repair the damage and recompense you for the inconvenience caused?

And get great delight when it causes issues for next door but it’s not you that is getting the grief but virgin..,

StaplesCorner · 02/06/2018 16:37

I'm sure we've had Virgin threads before where they wont even speak to you as its not your service; they don't give much of a shit about their own customers' property let alone the neighbours'.

Vitalogy · 02/06/2018 16:39

OP, I've not seen your other thread but if you're having problems with your neighbours, might not be wise to buy the property, or have I got the wrong end of the stick.
I agree about contacting Virgin re the wire.

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 16:41

Vit

We’ve put upwards of £10k into making this house habitable

I will be buying it :-)

Tell virgin that they’ve trespassed and committed criminal damage and they need to remove the wire

LeggyLinda · 02/06/2018 16:50

Not entirely sure how comparable this is, but a friend of ours had a similar situation with BT installing equipment in their premises.

They complained and agreed a £500 installation charge along with a £50 per month fee. They were also offered free BT services (which they didn’t take up).

This may explain why Virgin engineers installed on your property - they may have assumed you’d already granted permission (apparently it’s quite common scenario).

In our friend’s case it allowed connectivity to 4-6 households which may be why BT caved in. But I would definitely contact Virgin and let them know that this installation was not authorised. Give them 28 days to sort it before removing it yourself.

brizzledrizzle · 02/06/2018 16:54

AIBU to just cut the damn thing off?

Only if you don't mind taking their Virginity.

GabsAlot · 02/06/2018 16:55

they didnt even ask me they just installed -its the engineer unless your neiughbours specfiically said no put it over there

sayhellotothelittlefella · 02/06/2018 16:57

Definitely call them out via social media. Quickest way to get a response.

BrilliantDarling · 02/06/2018 16:59

Don't ring them you will get nowhere just passed around to different departments with different automated messages.
On social media they will answer you immediately as it's public and they don't wan to damage their 'reputation'.

kateandme · 02/06/2018 17:02

go and tell them via public virgins twitter page, youll soon get a IM reply.they wont want this type of thing on their public page via complaint so will want to rectify it.

BrilliantDarling · 02/06/2018 17:05

Don't touch it at all, your dickhead neighbour will use it against you, also they might have got permission from the house owner ( I assume you are renting /letting the house?) and it could be a set up by your neighbour in hope you do get annoyed and damage it.

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 17:08

The council wouldn’t have given them permission as I am responsible for the wall

TeasndToast · 02/06/2018 17:09

If you do, you know the loud swearing WILL be aimed at you Grin

Just cut it off. If they are going to stand in the garden screaming obscenities anyway you may as well give them a reason.
